Brutal year for our starting pitching.  Thank God we kept Wake around.  It certainly hasn't been pretty, but he has helped us out this year.  Decent 6th starter when needed.

    Still love ya Wake!

Listen, no one sayng he should win the CY Young. He's always been our 6th man, for as long as I can remember. Yeah, he gave up 5 runs in 6 innings. Yeah, his era is 5 runs. His career era is 4.40 (under 5 runs). We've known for damnnear 2 decades that it's a good idea that we score 4,5, or 6 runs when Wake pitches. The team knows that. The team has to prepare for that. Atleast, on average, and that's what ERA IS, an average... On average they know what to expect. On average the team should know going in, what they need to do to get a win. Get over it people. Tired of explaining or defending what shouldn't need explaining or defending to people that I guess are new to baseball. Congrats to Wakefield! Who knew he was our Stopper.

With the Rays losing tonight, it seems like Boston's hold on the WC is still pretty solid. As long as they don't spit the bit when they actually play Tampa... y'all are playoff bound. :0)

It did compromise the ...merits of the roster spots...

Yeah, Wake kept Miller in AAA while he was walking the whole world in April. He kept Douby from starting while he was hurt and on the DL (softy didn't even know). He kept the great Weiland in AAA. He kept all these kids back that could have led us to 100 wins. I'm glad Tazawa is here now to prove you right.

    Re: All you Wake supporters...

Wake seems to be in that Derek Lowe/Joe Blanton spot on the Sox (THose guys would have 5 ERA's in the AL East this year...Blanton has one in the weak hitting NL East) where they are decent fill-in back of the rotation guys, but you wish you had someone better (yet my Braves kept running out Lowe like he's a top 3 guy this year) It seems like there is a lot of vitriol towards Wakefield on this board. I would have thought he would be pretty well liked.

They expect a 6/7th starter to put up #3 starter numbers.

They expect a back-up catcher to have better numbers than half the starting catchers in MLB.

They expect us never to have a slump.

They expect a lot unreasonable things, so of course the are "let down" often... and then feel the need to rant and rave.

[QUOTE]Just look at it this way, this year he needs his team to give him 7 or 8 runs per game. The guy was done 7 years ago, who cares about  200 wins. He is costing the team wins.

You either get that Wakefield is a versatile, innings-eating pitcher who has been among the best 5th starters in baseball forever, or you have an agenda against him.  He has been a bargain at like 4 mil.  He barely grouses when he's asked to go to the pen.  He's a team guy.  If you can't see that, you're more blind than a bat wearing a blindfold in the darkest cave on earth.

They are never happy unless they are miserable and then there are the concern trolls who aren't even Red Sox fans.
