    Summer Prep for Algebra 1

    1)  What % ball do the Red Sox need to play the rest of the season to hit 100 wins?

    current record = 68W  41L

    162 games / year,   162 - 109 = 53 games remaining

    need to win 32 more games to his 100W

    32/53 =  60.4 %   :)

    And what about science?

    How many hours (or inches) of rain is required before a game at Fenway is postponed?

    The answer is: it depends.

    It depends upon how many dollars are made at the concession stand and how many Bob's Furniture and Dunkin' Donuts commercials are aired on T.V.

    Geometry can be learned by studying the shape of the playing surface and measuring the angles of the ball bouncing off the wall or the pitcher's legs.

    Foreign language is learned during interviews with our Hispanic and Japanese players.

    We also learn more about finances than we ever wanted to know during baseball season.

    Summer Algebra Prep Cont.

    2)  If the Red Sox play 9 games above .500 the rest of the way, what will be their final record?  Show the Algebraic equation

    *  +27 now, add +9 more = + 36 above .500 total for the year

    X + (X + 36) = 162           (162 - 36 = 126)

    2X = 126        126 / 2 = 63

    X = 63 Losses

    X + 36 = Wins  />>>   63 + 36 = 99 wins

    Final record???   99W  63L

    Algebra made easy with the help of the Red Sox  :)

    History can be learned with the older ballparks...social studies with the way fans behave and conduct themselves...health with the foul balls and flying broken bats...gym with the athletic skills....for advanced skills, there's the philosophy behind strategy, debate over players/managers/moves...

    my God, kids don't even need to go to school anymore!!  Baseball gives a better education that public schools!  :)

    Math Teachers,

    The next time your students give you that line, "I can't understand Algebra......  & when would I ever need it?!?!?!"

    Time to prove them wrong!!!

    They can understand!!!  They DO NEED IT!!!

    It's for the good of this Nation!!!  :)   RSN

    Help RSN!  Help our Nation compete in the 21st Century!

    Let's not continue with the ........  "If the Dow slips another 5% tomorrow, how much money will Mr. E likely lose if he has ____ invested in the stock market?" questions!!!!!
    ****   That's when I really start hating math!

    How 'bout Theology???

    If J.D. Drew continues sitting on the bench thinking about God & praying for an extension on the DL, does God hear & answer his prayer???

    *  If there is a God, & I believe there is.......

    God hears J.D., & for the good of his RSN he answers his prayer in the affirmative.

    To help out God, Reddick's prayer of staying in RF is running concurrently with J.D's.

    God answers both prayers without regard for Reddick's church affiliation, denominational preference, or any interest in religion whatsoever!
