He was hurt last fall and hasn't seemed healthy all this season. Did we get damaged goods in the Lackey trade?

Well, not fun that he is straight to sick bay.  But, I would say that his damage is part of the deal.  If he hadnt been hurt this past year, no way he gets dealt; he was a monster for the previous couple/few years.  Ben is surely taking a calculated risk that his injury is not chronic ('damaged goods') and that he will again be all-star calibre slugger next season.

It was no big deal.  as long he can just not to play too much this year so he can be 100% healthy for the next season!!

Good - let him rest.  now we can get other players playing time.

    Defense.  It is still important.

Craig is just having an off year...you know like Pedroia according to some other poster on another thread. It's nothing to worry about. All the Sox acquisitions for the meat of a WS winning rotation--Lester, Lackey, Peavy (Doubront, Miller pen) are winning moves. Just ask Ben Cherington and most of the fans who continually eat up every little morsel of the Sox NEEDING to TRADE because THERE WAS NO HOPE IN THE OFFSEASON FOR POSITION PLAYERS...Okay, Ben C. Gotchya, I believe you just had to move the entire rotation save for the one you couldn't give away--Clay.

I read a very nice comparison between Craig and Mike Lowell.  Many people thought that Lowell was finished when he got traded to the Sox.   Craig may or may not bounce back like Lowell did, but there's a good chance that he will once he's healthy.   He's a player to be excited about, IMO.

kimmi, i agree. I like Craig, but he is injury prone and that's a scary proposition. How he hit on one leg v. the Sox was impressive in the WS.

At least they got one game out of him. If he plays one more, he'll tie Injurino.

I can't Bogie, you see I broke the "Cardinal" rule of Sox fandom...I said let Mookie play 2b for a few games, and I challenged the FO that SP and Rotation was the greater good over panicking to get 1 proven power hitter and 1 physically broke down one.

I miss Lackey, Lester and Peavy. It's going to be a long time before you see the Sox become a force in the SP. Or Ben will give 200 million to Scherzer and Hamels. And still it won't match Lackey, Lester.

Agree with each point, Spaceman.  I don't think Ben was even worried at all if he wasn't 100% right now and missed a massive part of the remainder of this season, since it has already been so compromised by the failure of  early season hopefuls to show up.  Once Lester was traded, this season's issue became moot.   I think they will do their best to evaluate talent as we play the last quarter.  But Craig has been "off" all season and there have been those who have wondered if he had lost his skills.  I think they show up once the heals.
