Lester has to gut this one out. That play on the missed sign was a break. But Salty held the ball a bit too long and almost blew it. That tag at 3rd was a lot closer than it should have been.
I wish Rizzo/Kelly the very best, but I'm sure glad we have AGONE!!!!!!!!!!! -

i swear the mods on this board are so full of it as compared to the other major sport boards. here its like some insider clique with never ending cliquish ideals and goals. how do they do it on the pats and celtic boards after games? well guess what, people spontaneously write about it. y do we need a specific discussion about each game during 162 games. let it happen spontaneously. it doesnt have to be socialistically or communistically micro-manged, if u will. just let it happen! -

In Response to Re: An ALTERNATIVE to the game threads:Why is Lester so off his game today. I hope he will be back to self in next start in Bronx, if not, he will get lit up like July 4 evening on Charles river.

Sometime pitchers get into a good groove and forget what got them there.
Lester has been very good over his recent starts. But he was clearly agitated in the first two frames. And it is in Toronto.
The smallest tweak in mechanics can make a huge difference either way. -

Well, it was a sea-saw battle. These extra-inning games aren't doing our pen any service...and vice-versa tonight. There were several game shifts. Ells getting picked off 2nd with 0 outs and AGONE up set the early tone. The hope is, he'll learn from it because that was tough to take.
I have to wonder if this one should have gone into extras. I think what altered the game did not occur on the field. I know this might invite much Tito bashing, but I think his decision to stick with Lester after his pitch count was rising, and bring him back for the 6th was highly questionable. Especially when he's scheduled to face NY (I believe) Sunday. His command was shaky all night.
Toronto could have blown it apart more than once. In fact, Aceves almost imploded. Why did Tito remove Hill? Was it match-ups? He can't possible think anything in the past with Hill is relevant given how Hill has become a different pitcher.
If RedSox11 or other obsessive Tito bashers come here and start a Tito war, forget it. This is not a Tito bashing thread. Nor is it a Theo-bashing thread. However, if critique is deserved, then so be it. The one questioning a move should not be ridiculed unless he/she becomes obsessed with it. Bias blinds us to the game's realities. That works both ways. -

Did you bother to time Albers delivery to the plate? Or the attention he gave the runner on 2nd? -

Expitch is the one who started the "mistakes" thread. Bellsbury gets caught napping on a regular basis, which was Expitch's fine thread. This thread is bad, so I suggest others ignroe Varitek, I mean Harness, and post on Expitch's fine thread. -

In Response to An ALTERNATIVE to the game threads:There's a thread on this board called "MENTAL LAPSES", started by Ex-Pitch. It's evolution explores key moments of a given game. Unlike the game thread, it's more complex, and the discussion is quite civil. I'm wondering what UR thoughts are about a thread that discusses each game along the same lines, only involving key (game swaying) plays, both good and bad. If you think the idea has any merit, let's try it with this thread, beginning with the May 10th game vs. Toronto and see where it goes.

Without a doubt, Harness, there will be plenty of positive slants to this discussion in the future - I do believe that. But wow, this team needs to get it together - too many pick-offs, botched plays that appear to be fairly routine, and running into outs, swinging at balls out of the strike zone when ahead in the count, balks, etc. The Red Sox are generally very sound fundamentally, and this group should be no different.
And add not holding runners on when the game is on the line to that list........the SB on the pitchout is on Tek, but the SB of third was on Albers, who made no effort to hold him. Crazy.
Further, I was thinking that Albers would unintentionally walk Cooper, who was down in the count 1-2. Throw something unhittable and hope he would swing and miss - if no strike out, then a walk would have put a double play chance in order. Instead, he gave him a very hittable pitch. Oh-well. Today is another day. A split with Jays would be tolerable, but tough loss. My positive spin is, they will learn from these mistakes and it will make them stronger moving forward. -

Varitek, I mean Harness was all gussied up about going to the private thread. It's a shame he posts his drivel on here, stealing a thread from expitch. "Over indulgent buffoon" sums up Varitek, I mean Harness. -

Long time reader, first time poster. Bad pitch call on the homer Bard gave up. Too many sequenced fastballs to look at and guage. Big leaguers can hit 100 MPH if they are sitting dead red.
This steam seems to be going through the motions, thinking press clippings will bring season success. If the team is still riding a flat tire by the end of May, they have little choice but to change a familiar face or two and shake up the floundering team chemistry. Baseball isn't played on paper, or based upon media pre-season hype. -

I agree. I hope Ellsbury learns from his mistake, but I doubt Albers will be more focused. He's very good when his foot is on the rubber. But beyond that, I'd rather have Jim Kaat in his 60's field the position.
I'm glad folks are receptive to this idea. Let's try it with tonight's game, and see where this goes. The big test will be the NY series. -
