TITLETOWN: I was referring to the pick-off of Ellsbury yesterday.
That dramatically changed the first inning and gave Lester no margin for error.

    That was HUGE Harness.......

Agon doing his very best again to will this team to a win.....

I know this sounds very homerish and is not much like me, but it seems that every borderline call is going against the Sox lately.

Not a fun night for Boston sports.....missed good portion of baseball game watching the Celtics....but again tonight, it really comes down to the pitching for the Red Sox.  Lackey had the chance to get out of it in the 7th, but tough inning when you walk three batters.  Another horrid outing for Lackey.

I hope this doesn't turn into a Tito bashing thread, but I don't get staying with Lackey that long. He did the same thing with Lester yesterday. Is he saving the pen for NY?

Yesterday, Lester had poor command. His pitch count was high enough. Did Tito think he was gonna have a 1-2-3 6th? What would make him think that the way Lester was pitching? Was it the match-ups? What the hell good are match-ups when he faces guys years ago - with differing form?

It seems to me Tito needs a large margin for error. If Lackey & Lester are really on, the team takes two. When they aren't, the team/manager must compensate...and it's not happening.

I'm not a Tito basher, either, but sticking with Lackey (as well as Lester last night) was perplexing, especially with the off day tomorrow.  He looked a bit out-coached in this series.

Lackey is also an emotional pitcher - when he starts barking at his teammates, it usually doesn't end well, LOL.

I'm a tito fan, always have been

plenty of good managers have been fired before

Zac: Your art work had my poor stomach doing flips! As if watching Lackey wasn't enough!

I just started a thread called BP Dilemma. It discusses Tito's limited options beyond the starter. This is not to excuse him for Lester/Lackey, but I'm wondering how much this inconsistent pen is influencing his decisions.

Right now, your team only has the Rays to worry about. You must be a happy camper!

EDIT: I just saw the NY/Royals line score. They're tied 2-2 but NY has out-hit the Royals 10-2! Is this accurate?

I'm sure that's part of it

but tito as much as anyone, or at least acts like he

has more confidence in his guys as anyone

I think we can also ask how much did he look to  ferral on such things

After getting doubled off 2nd, against the Mariners, Ellsbury was picked off. Repeating the same mental mistakes needs to be addressed.

Don't yet know of it's overall impact, but that play by Yooouk! with one out in
the 6th was amazing. Hopefully a momentum changer. After the fifth frame, stopping NY was vital. That play ensured it. Amazing!

J-Bay, this isn't a game thread. It only discusses game-altering plays.
The game thread is a great idea as it keeps knee-jerk reactions on one thread.
Posting on that thread is generated by emotional response, and I don't trust my reactions off a spur of the moment post.

But I do review the conclusion of that thread to get a read on it's tone.
BTW: BDC never got back to me when I requested UR email address.
Did you get a chance to notify them?

Re: An ALTERNATIVE to the game threads: REDSOX vs. YANKEES

    This is Bard's "role".
I've stated several times that Tito is mis-managing this pen. He has less margin for error and isn't compensating. The proper move IMO is using Hill/Bard to get to Paps. Right now, two one and one out, 5-3 the score.

Let's hope Bard has better success than in past NY games. I just wish Hill was facing some of these lefties.

Hairy inning. But Bard cut it. Posada isn't the hitter he used to be. Thankfully!

Note: Bard has performed worse with Salty catching than with anybody else since 2010. Short sample size. His 2011 ERA w/Salty is over 8.00.

Re: An ALTERNATIVE to the game threads: REDSOX vs. YANKEES

What a finale! Looking back, I think that Youk play was key.
Nice outing by Buch. Not easy against those lefty bats. Looks like Tito's pairing of Salty/Buch will hold.

I think it's important for the RedSox to have a dependable lefty relief specialist vs. NY. We need to know if Hill is that go-to guy.
I'm betting we'll soon find out.

Re: An ALTERNATIVE to the game threads: REDSOX vs. YANKEES

Nice game.  The sox were able to hold on, thanks to Youk's homer, which provided much needed insurance runs.  Youk and Buchholz were the stars of the game.  I think Salty's single to lead off the 7th was pretty big.  Always important to get the lead runner on, and it knocked Colon out of the game.  Ellsbury running on Joba was also key, as Pedey was able to hit the ball in the hole, where Cano would have been had he not been covering second.

That Yankee line-up is scary, from top to bottom.  The fact that Granderson has found his swing again has been the key to the whole thing, IMO - and Martin's bat has been a nice bonus as well.
