While I always dreamed of owning Pujols, I realized after we signed Agon it would never happen. Kinda glad he signed there....will eat up alot of their team resources. When we play them I'd just walk the guy...I'd even walk him with the bases loaded! Best hitter that's ever lived IMO.

Now that Agels signed Pujols, I could see Rangers go all-in on Fielder.  Or Wilson AND Darvish if they fail on Fielder.

Man.. We have to face Pujols every year now???

Good signing for the Angels...for 5 years maybe 6.  They are gonna love that contract when he's 40, 41, 42.

The Angels had a pretty good young 1B.

But if you atre going to sign Puljos for 10 years - it has to at least be in teh AL where he can DH.

Think the Angels just created a spending war in the west.  Power shifting from East to West?  Perhaps.

Wow, that is pretty greedy by Pujols after Cardinals did offered him 9 years contract which it is one year shorter and maybe a bit less money per year.

Given his age, his placement in the AL always made more sense because of the DH factor.  As fourrings noted (and per Olney on ESPN) they are apparently looking to get Wilson signed by this afternoon.  They have a TV deal that is kicking in and are looking to put more of an imprint on the LA market with the Dodgers' issues.

Phat Albert gives St Louis the bird ..!..

I guess the Cardinals offer of 10 years and $220 million was lacking to this guy...that extra $30million he's getting from LA should really improve his quality of life!

if the angels also get wilson, then still have kendry morales and/or mark trumbo to deal for other needs...they may get pretty scary pretty quickly

The $30 million difference between the Angels and Cardinals offers evaporated when you factor in the disparity in state income taxes. California is at over 9%. This is an ugly move by Pujols. The Cardinals are a classy original franchise with more championships than any team other than the Yankees. They erected a statue for Pujols to make him the most revered Cardinal since Stan the Man Musial. And yet he leaves anyway to take less money (factoring in taxes and cost of living) to play in Anaheim.

If you earn Pujols $$$, the state income tax in California is 10.3% while it is only 6 % in Missouri. The difference of 4.3 % is about $1 mil. annually of his $25 mil. salary. So taking the $30 mil. better offer is reduced by $10 mil. to make it $20 mil. better.

Re: Angels To Sign Albert Pujols- ten years and $250-260MM

Angels are paying mostly for a DH for most of this embarrassingly bad value contract.

32 Years old 25 million base likely palatable performance value
33 Years old 25 M likely palatable performance value
34 Years old 25 M likely palatable performance value
35 Years old 25 M dubious performance value
36 Years old 25 M dubious performance value

37 Years old 25 M unlikely performance value
38 Years old 25 M Nearly Certain Poor performance value
39 Years old 25M Nearly Certain Poor performance value
40 Years old 25M Certain embarrassing performance value (Write off)
41 Years old 25M Certain embarrassing performance value (Write off)

100 to 125M of this contract is nearly certain poor performance or write off

No marketing PR and claims of legacy brand sales is going to recoup 30 to 50% of this cost in an already good baseball market with other big stars in more popular sports

Agon is a very good value compared to this Inesptein deal. This deal rises near the level of Crawford in terms of one of the worst value contracts in MLB history.

Marlins are a dubious financial undertaking. Players were warned about fire sales and financial market issues. Poor place to identify with for a long contract.

If money was paid up front, Pujols would have signed Marlins offer sheet.

I'll tell you guys, it's this kind of insanity that makes me want to tell MLB to go fk themselves. 250 million dollars for one guy to play baseball and yet in this country we have homeless war veterans walking the streets and sleeping on heating grates at night. sorry fellahs, but I just had to vent alittle.

Perfect example of getting paid for past achievments, really.

Huge Spanish contigency of fans in LA. Plus will get fair-weather-fans from LA Dodgers rejects.

Im sure there is a buy out towards the end of the contract.

Appears Angles are trying to somewhat duplicate what AROID is doing with Yankees, have a player ending his HOF career with your team.

    Interest = fans = $ for owners.

Don't blame you. I think a donation of 25% to 100% of yearly baseball money from owners and players would be the right thing to volunteer to do. #1 priority  for public policy should be disabled veterans care, not entitlements.

Yes but Florida is a no income tax state.  California is a crumbling mess with confiscatory tax rates.
