Ryan Rowland-Smith has signed a contract to pitch for the Sox though details of the contract haven't been disclosed he is the second Left handed pitcher the Sox have signed this week as they also signed Matt Maloney earlier this past week.

Ryan Rowland-Smith has not pitched in the majors since 2010 when the lefthander went 1-10 for Seattle with a 6.75 ERA in 27 appearances, including 20 starts, covering 109.1 innings. The Mariners had expected big things from Rowland-Smith after the Aussie had posted an ERA of 3.62 in his first 253.1 MLB innings.
It's hard to believe that Rowland-Smith is now 30 years old.

Nothing wrong with signing guys like this. If you sign seven such guys a year and one makes a contribution the signing of all seven of them was worthwhile.
Nothing to lose and everything to gain from where I look at it. If he fails, he was worth the couple of weeks worth of housing and meals. If he can even help the Pawsox he is a good signing.

Yes, the 200mm now belongs to the LAD...
230* and that only looks to go UP in the coming years..just looking at the 2013 dodgers it's hard not to admire it lol. People wanted to talk about the 2011 Sox being "the best team ever" but i think the 2013 dodgers will be the next team to have that claim put on them. They are certainly my preseason pick to win the WS

With total labor costs, it's been reported to be about 189 million.
Of course, 160 million for this 2013 garbage barge is embarrassing. The good news is that it's almost sure to be an improvement over 2012, as they can't get any worse.

who cares how much they spend? it all comes off the books in 2 years anyway.. It will not affect us going down the road. I would much rather have the FO funnel money into the team than pocket it... Payroll isn't going to affect ticket prices so i don't see an advantage in going cheap and finishing in the basement again
