Back in 2011, I called Beckett and Lackey the "Texas fat slobs". I said not to offer him the premature extention offer that gave him his current contract. Then, I said to get rid of him as a clubhouse cancer and pay part of his deal if needed.

Yet you hated the Dodgers' trade?

I think he wasn't that bad of a teammate. I think the jettisoning of Gonzalez has had a profound effect on the clubhouse. The team is a team and playing like one.

CRawbust was not an extension, but yes, you and many of us were against the signing long before it happened.

I did note that you wanted Crawbust to be our leadoff hitter instead of Ellsbury.

If AGon was sharing his cell phone in the clubhouse,  involved with a BobbyV mutiny, or whatever, it tells me he was probably stirring things up for the team.

This is exactly what ownership didn't want.

Like MY father would say "when you walk in the middle of the road, you get hit by traffic from both sides".

Ownership prefers players who toe the line, not ones who make millions and cry about the schedule.

AGon was/is a big spoiled cry baby premadonna who, like Craw, would never have adjusted to the pressure of playing in Boston.

    In response to softlaw2's comment:

It was Beckett, not AGon who was the senior MLBPA tenured member of the Red Sox clubhouse. The Red Sox would be a much better baseball team with AGon, even if they paid some money to get rid of Beckett. Crawford would have improved and he would have been a Vernon Wells type of case as a partial write-off.

Crawbust and Beckett's extension were denounced, before the fact, by me. The notion that it was "the deal of the century" to sweep that under the rug is utterly incompetent.

AGon has been a professional his entire career, as evident from his showing up for work and performance history. Beckett was a lazy prima donna who was so out of shape for the job he was required to do that it was embarrassing. If he relied on movement and deception, perhaps his fat slob body would have been adequate for his job performance. But that's not the case.

If Beckett were on the Red Sox, now, his ERA would be between 6 and 7.

Beckett is amost a certain alcohol abuse case.

Gonzalez doesn't like the press, refused to place any blame on himself, was a clubhouse lawyer, and complained direct to ownership when he didnt like the management. He was not a good club house guy and there is plenty to support that. Beckett was well liked by his teams which is already vastly different than Gonzalez and there is no proof he is an alcoholic. Beckett sucked and made too much money. Gonzalez was Nomar 2004 toxic and was paid too much. That is why he had to go, even more so than offseting Crawford and Beckett.
