I'm not a small sample size kind of guy, but I thought that those who are should maybe be posting something good about Napoli pretty soon.

The guy is a streaky hitter. Ups and downs.

As always, it's a very good thing the team's management has a lot more patience then the fans.

Excuse me, critism on Napoli was just and valuable, first got him out 5th spot in line up, then he has been more productive platooning... He had a fine weekend series, lets hope and pray he keeps on...Same with Lester, he was awful for a long spell, , but now he has pitched great in last two outings...such is baseball and Life...

Never said it was unjustified. Just wondering where all the small sample size guys are when the small sample works the other way.

I think they're busy busting on Ortiz's back or Buch's 1 inning of work (which people seem to forget that he is NOT ALLOWED to pitch over 40 pitches in 1 inning of a rehab start AND there were 3 errors that inning......)

What a minute?  Valuable?  Are you saying that the criticism on this board got the Red Sox to change how they played him?  Seriouisly?  You really think the coaching staff comes here for advice on how to run the team?

Exactly. Now the sample size has shrunk to 1 inning.

Posters got the impression that I was minimizing Napoli's slump, when all I was saying was that knee jerk reactions based on relatively small sample sizes are not logical, especially in light of the fact that a guy like Napoli has a long history of being very streaky. To bench a guy like Napoli when he is down, is like selling all your stock right after the big crash.

While we were never certain if this was the end of the end for Napoli, his career of huge ups and downs dictated the choice to stick with him in hopes that he'd snap out of it and go on one of his patented white hot streaks.

Let's hope this is the beginning of a 10 week volcano streak.

I guess it's a good thing for Napoli that you're not managing the team.

Small samples are only valuaable when players are slumping, not when they are hitting.

    I thought you knew that.

It seems CLEAR that he has not been heating up.  If anything, he's cooling off again.
