Verlander left this forum a long time ago, then he became pacquiao and I think he is now communist contrarian.

ODU alum! It's amazing how durable this man is throughout 9 innings and the impressive repertoire he possesses. He can throw 4 devestating pitches in any count and throw it for a strike. He is definitely one of the best in the game when he's at his best. Keep an ear out for his brother Ben, who was drafted by the Tigers but has elected to follow in his brother's footsteps and come to Old Dominion. He has the same stature and the same speed his brother had when he was a Freshman at ODU.

    When I see a 1:2 ratio of hits/IP - I think of Ryan.

I know, but Ryan improved in that area as he matured. I think Ryan was more explosive. He could intimidate at will, and they said when he's getting his curve over, get out the record books...

he's just straight up ridiculous right now,a threat to throw a no-no as soon as he gets out of bed...

Agreed, but Ryan never allowed 1 1/2 BB per 9 IP. The fact that we're talking in these terms is unbelievable enough. It's like saying "Well, Rembrandt didn't use chiascuro as well as Cezanne".

Re: Anybody see what Verlander's been doing lately?

Clemens has a good ratio, as I recall.
I remember one brief 36 inning stint in the minors when he didn't walk a batter.

Scilling may have the best SO/BB SO/IP ratio of them all. Koufax in his prime had a very good SO/BB ratio. Verlander is in nice company. Now it's a matter of endurance...

Re: Anybody see what Verlander's been doing lately?

Right now Verlander is about as good as you'll find.
IMO, nobody in the game today can rival Clemens in his pre-juiced prime, or Ryan once he became a true pitcher.

But in a one-game showdown, I'd take Schilling in his mid-thirties or Koufax in his prime. Along with many others. Verlander still has much to prove in this regard.

Ford had 32.2 consecutive WS scoreless innings; let's not forget El Duque (Largely PS Only) or Jack Morris (Who should be in the HOF)
