Anyone laughing at the Mets offer of RA Dickey for Bradley, Jr. and Bogaerts?

I would not trade either Bogaerts or Bradley for Dickey. Much less both of them. Can't blame the Mets for trying , but this is preposterous. I know some of you don't like signing free agents, but the advantage of doing that , as opposed to trades , is that you keep your top prospects.  No one is going to trade us an impact player without us giving up our best prospects.

    In response to Softlaw1's comment:

according to a baseball source. Red Sox GM Ben Cherington and Alderson met Monday afternoon, with New York looking for outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and shortstop Xander Boegarts in exchange for the Cy Young Award winner, the source said. However, it's unlikely the Red Sox would part with those top prospects.

I'm laughing at it, assuming the rumor that Cherry is meeting to discuss this offer. Dickey's an old 2nd rate bum from Queens/NL ball, who is seeking a 1st rate contract.

Avoid RA Dickey like the plague!

Note, ESPN did not get one of the names right for the Red Sox prospects, which happens with the incompetent propaganda people that runs it.

Sorry, I don't agree. If the RS get CYA Winner Dickey, they're instant contenders. (To wit: Jeter claims he's extremely tough to hit; others have said when they face him, they can't wait for the game to be over; he throws a fast knuckleball like no other, even Wilhelm. You seem to have a problem with knuckleballers in general.) And no matter what his next contract is, I'm pretty sure it shall be less than Lackey.

I agree. Bradley and Bogaerts for a year of Dickey is not a good trade.

However, Dickey's record has been pretty good for 3 if not 4 years. He obviously figured something out and is consistent with it. He won 20 games for a team that doesn't score runs like the Sox. Don't know about the package of players, but I would bet on Dickey for 2 or 3 years.

    Dangle a catcher plus a lower-than-top-5 prospect.

Add McCarthy for 3 years and you could have two quality pitchers for less than $10M per player per year. Some are willing to give 5/90 to Sanchez. Makes no sense that you wouldn't go 3/51 or 3/54 COMBINED for two pitchers like Dickey and McCarthy. You would get two for less than it would cost for Sanchez.

Last season was his best season ever.  His second best season record ever was 11-9.

How much do we trust that guy? I do not mind getting him, but Boston isnt going to give up top prospects for him.  They can have Salty along with mid-prospect.  That is a fair trade!

Is asking for a top prospect or two for one year of R.A. Dickey much different from asking for a top prospect or two for one year of Jacoby Ellsbury? One is a reigning Cy Young Award winner and the other once was the top position player in the MVP voting.

I wouldn't trade Bogaerts and Bradley for Ellsbury, even if I thought I was one CF'er away from being WS favorites.

I look at this way. If i were to sale my house. I talk to my real estate agent. We discuss our options. Then we agree this what i want for my house in the final sale. We both don't say OK lets go below the asking price and work our way up, usually we start high and work our way down to my asking price.

The Red Sox are not the only team at the winter meetings looking for a top pitcher. Of course the mets manager is going to put out a high bid and go from there. BC will put in counter offer for R.A Dickey and see if Mets mngt. will bite.

Sometimes we can't everything we want, " sometimes we need to spend money to make money".  Good example are Red Sox fans are going to be happier having a big name on 1B (Napoli) or settle with non market name (Hosmer). My final question is would give up these 2 prospects for younger pitcher Lincecum? My answer to this is YES!

A reigning Cy Young winner at 5M/yr.  I wouldnt resign him, but Id trade Bradley for one year of him.  Angels paid a lot more for four months of Greinke.  Rangers paid more for four months of Dempster.  Plus we'd get a draft pick.  We'd be WS contenders.

Also: the only thing that Bradley has shown is elite contact hitting in A.  He struggled a bit in AA.  No power, average speed.  He's going to be 23 at the start of next year and in AA.  It may be a good time to sell high on him.

But I'd rather flip him as part of a larger package for JUPP.

If the Sox could extend Dickey I'd be happy to send Jitterbug Bradley for him.  Bogaerts I would be reluctant to trade for anybody unless it was an overwhelming offer.

Can't blame the Mets for asking for a lot, but Ben needs to stay away. Mortgaging the future for a 38-year-old (knuckleballer or no) whose track record of success goes all the way back to 2010 is exactly the opposite type of move this team needs to be making.

The heck with WS Championships. Let's trade the farm for Stanton for LF. Sign Hamilton For RF. Hit HR's and have fun for the next few yrs.

if we got stanton AND hamilton we could have the worst rotation in the bigs and still have a reasonable chance if making the postseason and win a title..

My god That middle of the order would be wicked. Napoli ortiz stanton hamilton. Thats Alot of power. We'd Still have money to Add a couple pitchers too.

reports say that stanton is very disturbed by Miamis actions and outlook. he very may well ask for a trade. and is definitely a player you empty the farm for. he would kill it in fenway.

He can ask for whatever he wants. Unfortunately for him, he has zero leverage yet. There's also the fact that unless the Marlins are folding up shop, they need someone on the team that people will actually pay to see.

if they are looking to build the team around him i thnk he has more leverage than you think. seeing as their attendance at this point lives and dies with how well he slugs the ball. if he is unhappy and not giving it his all it won't matter if he is on the team or not. people will not show up to the ballpark.
