It is nice to see, but then they'll turn around a get shut down by pitchers who aren't nearly as good, like Doug Fister the other night.  They need to bring the same intensity and battling mentality to face mediocre starters that they do the elite ones.

In Response to Re: Anything to be said for beating King Felix and super hot Weaver back to back? : "and weaver was due for a loss." That's all you can come up with? LOL On the other hand, you DO get all excited over every red Sox loss, so watching the Sox win two games with two of the best pitchers in the AL against them must really get to you. Enjoy, Zippy.

I thought we had the best two pitchers in the American league ??  Anyway, It was two great, overdue, Wins in a row and we need to keep it up before we fall further behind !!

In Response to Re: Anything to be said for beating King Felix and super hot Weaver back to back? : So the Yankees win thanks largely to what should have been called an error last night (just before Swisher's hit), and that's gritty, but the Red Sox win largely because Ichiro lost a ball in the sun and it's "luck"? I didn't know that's how it works. Double standard much?

inge had no choice but try to get that ball in between hops. It wasn't an error. How's last place treating you?

There is a slight possibility that Fenway is becoming a tough place for opposing pitchers in the same way that Yankee stadium has been over the years.

I'll leave it to the statisticians to hash that out. But it's a possibility.

Based on their records so far this year, I'd say Felix and Weaver have been better than Lester and Buchholz, wouldn't you?

I expect Lester and Buchholz to get better as the season rolls a long.

I was at the game Sunday and the lack of activity in the pen (espescially with Jenks on the mound) was moronic.

Both very exciting games--riveting, actually.  And in early May, yet. Hernandez actually pitched well, but Ortiz got a huge double for the two runs, which should have lasted.  Yes, Lowrie's "triple" was luck, but Crawford's rbi single was not.  He delivered with RISP, whereas in the game before the Sox went 0 for 11 with RISP. Last night I think we saw the residual effects of Weaver's stomach virus or whatever.  He was good enough, but not at his best.  And Pedroia had a fantastic at bat to get that 2-rbi single.  Two wins despite two bullpen implosions--one by Jenks and one by Wheeler.  Francona doesn't have a lot of good options when he calls for a reliever.  Pap is as good as ever, but Bard is off from last year (hopefully that is behind him).  Jenks and Wheeler, expected to be stalwarts, have ERA's over 9.  Okajima might be OK this time, but his ERA is still over 6.  Wake is a specialist--mop up or spot starter.  Albers has been terrific so far and is likely to get the "7th inning slot" in place of Jenks.  Aceves and Atchison are at Pawtucket and could be called up.

I really wish Hill would have got a call up by now. Since the change in delivery coming more from the side, Hill has been shutting down batters for the most part. Seems to be a better option from the left side. I still dont trust Oki one bit.

More concentrated offense (more than 1 hit here, 1 hit there...) was nice to see.  Too many Sox are still hitting for very poor average.  Everyone can see improvement since 2-10 though, even the 'haterz'.  Got a way to go though.

    I predict .500 in 4 more games...

Very realistically, second place within 8 or so....

Pretty crazy considering the atrocious Sox start.

Sleestack1, interesting prognosis.  Could happen.  This has definitely been one crazy season.  Debacles in TX and Cleveland.  Slight recovery at home.  Great trip to the West Coast, taking all four in Anaheim against a red hot Angels team.  Then a semi-debacle in Baltimore followed by one at Fenway against the Mariners.  But a miracle win over Hernandez followed by one over Weaver--both great pitchers.

The Sox bullpen is questionable, but that starting pitching ain't half bad, and the hitting just might be coming around.  Cameron gets two dingers in one game, and Crawford get the game-winning rbi in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs.

I'm happy with the wins but last night Weaver got screwed when Varitek should have been called out on strikes and he seemed to lose a bit of his poise after that.

Oki is blocking Hill. It's time Tito uses Oki in high-leverage game conditions.
Nobody else is cutting it consistently in the set-up role.

Let's find out if a healthy Oki is for real. If not, cut the string and give Hill his chance.

It was nice to see Salty knock in Carl and Lester out dueling Haren.  Bard's in now ... best of luck to the Sox the rest of the night!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited to see Crawford starting to get hot. This guy is a special baseball player, and I think we're going to like what we see from him over the course of his contract.

You can now add Haren to the list.  Hernandez, Weaver and Haren, among the starting pitching elite, have all gone down.  RS have outscored the opponents 19-10, with suberb starts from Wakefield, Buchholz and Lester.  Today, our team goes .500!

I guess Haren was "just due for a loss" as was CC. There is a lot of that going around recently.

The last road trip the Sox were 6-3.  So far on this homestand the Sox are 3-2.  I was (still am) hoping for a 7-4 homestand.  Things appear to be looking up for the Sox, but there still seems to be some that either can't or don't want to see that, for whatever reason.
