Yeah bill I agree...hes had a nagging hamstring issue and a couple other ones as well. But the Rays are showing the willingness to lock up their core talent for a long time.

I love Longoria but the contract for a 275 hitter despite the 25 hrs and 100 RBI maybe a bit much.  I just don't being him being any better in 3 to 5 years never mind in 10 years.

136 mil for 10 yrs is 13 per yr. in FA I bet he'd get more?

Yeah, I agree he would get more. but now even if he gets injured, hes going to be very wealthy. If he waited until becoming a FA, anything can happen. Its a smart move on his part. Whats it matter if he made 50M more? 100M is a boatload of cash that will set his family up for generations.

It sounds like a reasonable deal for both the Rays and Longoria.

Suddenly the Blue Jays and Rays have money.  I think the IRS needs to look into both organizations.  LOL

So rather then spend some good money on help last season or this coming season they spend it all on Longoria? See: Mauer, Twins.

I was thinking the same thing.

The Rays can trade either Shields or Hellickson and get a good group of hitters in return.

One problem:  Ellsbury's agent is Scott Boras who seems to be tougher to negotiate with than the North Koreans.   LOL

"Despite missing more than half the season last year, he hit .289 with 17 home runs and 55 RBI."  foxsports.com

Uh yeah this sounds like the right time to extend him by 100 million dollars

But they wont and Longoria and Co. will never be the team to beat because of it. For a team that refused to even bring one real FA or trade for a star they now shell out mega-money to a player they have control of already for a number of years.

Have any of you been to Tropicana Field?  It is the most depressing stadium I have ever been to.  I felt so trapped.

One good thing about Tropicana Field?  The stadium is 3/4 empty so the guys will let you sit closer to the field.   LOL

They will trade Longoria when the high contract years arrive, just like they will trade Shields this winter or by July at the latest.
