The rays signed their best player - good move.

    have the Sox signed ellsbury?

They would be happy to sign Ell's six years 100M.

    [/QUOTE]

    I wouldn't do that for $60M/6.

I agree with you.  I also think something strange is brewing in Toronto.

I have a feeling that the Blue Jays are not done yet.

As for the Rays, they have to make a move (trade one of their starting pitchers) for hitters.

               We can disagree on that.

Boras is going to be looking for 6 to 8 years at 20M/per.

He'll use the Crawford contract as a point of reference.

I agree than Ellsbury might get close to $100M/6, but I think he is worth, at most, $60M/6, and even that is a huge gamble.

Tb has a long history of trading their stars before their big contracts kick in. I am near certain that Shields will be traded. They may extend price and then trade him the year before his contract goes way up.

They can no longer stockpile comp picks like before, so they are more likely to trade stars for prospects over the coming years.

Ellsbury like everybody else is worth what teams are willing to pay them.

When you look at what players are getting paid then one can understand the expections Boras has for his client.

I hope the Sox keep Ellsbury but it's not a given. They have a couple young outfielders close to being ready and may prefer to direct payroll for other needs.

If 50 year old Hunter can get $26M/2, Bora$$ has every right to think Ells can get over $100M/6.

I think we need to "direct our payroll for other needs".

If the Sox don't plan on resigning Ell's (which I'am ok with because of the depth in their system) then they should trade him this winter.

I think the Red Sox should keep Ellsbury at least until July.  Now is not the time because he does not have as much value since he was hurt.

If the Red Sox are out of the playoff picture by July, then trade him to a team desperate for offense and speed.

If they trade him in July, the team getting him will not get the comp pick if he walks after 2013... a big loss of value in a day and age where comp picks are increasingly rare.

I dont think Price will sign an extension for his arb years. he stnads to make a lot more going year to year, which is why i think he will be traded...

If they think hes someone that can get them to the promised land, they wont care about the comp pick if they think they can win a ws title...
