Are the Umpires squeezing Red Sox pitchers?

Against Tampa Bay Vanover called Cody Ross out on three pitches out of the strike zone. If he had been calling pitches all day then okay, but that wasn't the case. All of a sudden he decides to change his strike zone.

Against the hard hitting Rangers, the umpire squeezes Lester, clearly he had a strike out in the second that could have changed the flow of the game, but no, a pitch that was knee high and on the corner was called a ball, the hitter continued and Lester threw another 20 pitches in the inning. Is the umphiring getting worse? It sure looks like it. I know that 18-3 shouldn't go back to a bad call , but that started the slide. It definetely affected the 1-0 loss.

It is a shame that umpires decide the results of the game, they should be seen and not heard. Call a fair game stop all the showmanship, get it right.

Re: Are the Umpires squeezing Red Sox pitchers?

The umpires have been squeezing pitchers for many years. It happens to all teams not just the Sox. I agree that the calls on Cody Ross the other night were questionable. The umpires are human and will always make calls as they see them which not everyone will agree with. As far as last night, the ball/strike calls had no effect on the outcome of that game.

Not anymore than any other team in MLB. What is your evidence relative to every other team in MLB? What would thier motivation be relative to every other team in MLB. I just don't see it, we are just pitching below pre-season expectations, which by the way were not very high.

There's a rumor that the WUA has circulated a memo instructing umpires to rule against Bobby Valentine.

Great point.  No sense in laying any blame on the Sox when the umps are so obviously the reason the Sox are having issues so far this year.

Or it could be that the team isn't that good.

How can you post a "blame the umpires" thread the day after a total blow-out and expect people to take you seriously?

The Padres are 3-9, Cubs are 3-8 ,.....I wonder if the umpires hate them too.

Padres have former Sox player Mark Kotsay, and the Cubs have Theo...maybe the hate continues even after you leave the Red Sox?

I wonder if the Patriots lost the Super Bowl because the refs don't like them?

Yup! Every team the Sox play have 29 guys on their roster!
