Arod and his cousin relationship under MLB investigation (updated)

     From NYDailynews.com:

Major League Baseball is once again investigating Alex Rodriguez's relationship with the cousin he admitted two years ago was his steroid mule.

According to a team source, Rodriguez's cousin, Yuri Sucart, is again traveling with Rodriguez on some road trips, despite being banned by the Yankees from any team-related function or facility. That edict followed A-Rod's 2009 claim that Sucart provided and injected him with performance-enhancing drugs. Sucart, wearing a Yankee hooded sweatshirt, was spotted at the team's St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco Tuesday night after the middle game of the Bombers' series with Oakland. The source also said Sucart has accompanied A-Rod on road trips this year and even last season.

During his 2009 mea culpa press conference at spring training following a Sports Illustrated report saying he had tested positive during MLB's survey testing year in 2003, Rodriguez detailed how Sucart would travel to the Dominican Republic to procure steroids (he called them "boli") for both men when A-Rod played for the Rangers between 2001-03. The News reported then that Rodriguez met in Tampa for about two hours with both MLB's Department of Investigations and Labor Relations, answering questions about his relationship with Sucart as well as his affiliation with embattled Dominican trainer Angel Presinal.

Presinal was also banned from baseball facilities by MLB for past steroid links. Sucart was spotted chauffeuring A-Rod around in spring training in '09, prompting the Yankees to ban Sucart from team flights, buses and in restricted areas at stadiums and spring training sites.

"We have been in contact with the Yankees about this matter," Rob Manfred, baseball's executive VP of labor relations, told the Daily News Wednesday. "We are looking into it."

Major League Baseball instituted its own ban of personal trainers and non-team employees before the 2003 season - in part as a security measure in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and in part because clubhouses were rife with personal trainers and hangers-on. The ban does not extend to team hotels nor does it prevent people such as Sucart from purchasing a ticket to a game and watching as a spectator.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman would not comment on the matter when reached at his Stadium office Wednesday.

Sucart, who is 13 years older than the 35-year-old Rodriguez and had traveled with him through stops in Seattle and Texas, fell on hard times in the months after Rodriguez held his '09 press conference naming him as the source of his drugs. While A-Rod won his first World Series title that season and was a key component during the playoffs, banks initiated foreclosure proceedings on Sucart's Miami home and several of his rental properties.

A lawyer who represented Sucart then, John Ruiz, told The News that Sucart was "disappointed that he was blamed for everything."

"Everybody wants a scapegoat," Ruiz said.

Well, thank you for your well thought out intelligent response.
Sorry if you don't understand why this is a problem. If Arod is doing steroids and/or HGH,it is a league violation.Since Sucart provided them to Arod in the past(according to Arod's own testimony) and he's travelling to away games with the Yankees,it looks awfully suspicious.Especially after Rodriguez's comeback from his hip surgery and re-emergence as a hitter.
So yes,it is newsworthy whether you like it or not.Maybe Rodriguez isn't doing against MLB rules or maybe he is.It bears looking into and taking appropriate action if necessary.

    From ESPN.com:

The matter regarding Alex Rodriguez's cousin being at the New York Yankees' team hotel has been resolved, Major League Baseball said Thursday.

"Our position is, we told the Yankees, they agreed, that [Yuri Sucart] should not be allowed in any non-public areas; clubhouses, any team charters, buses. And it's our understanding that that prohibition has been respected. I've talked to the Yankees about the situation," MLB executive Rob Manfred told ESPN.com.

"We've talked to the Yankees they've assured us the prohibition has been respected."

Come on Yankee fans.....stop with the lame nonsense about A-Roid being clean. He was having a miserable season at the plate. Then, like a miracle from above, he starts ripping the cover off the ball. Out of nowhere. And also out of nowhere, his drug mule cousin appears with him on road trips? Oh, I get it....it's just a coincidence. They were at a family picnic together..... Anybody wanna buy a bridge??

If you knew ANYTHING; you would know ARod was killing the ball in spring training, hit about .400 with a bunch of homers the first 2 weeks, then got hurt. When he came back, he was still hurt, and hit about .100 with NO POWER for about a month; he claimed his timing was off & developed bad habits. Now he is hitting better (but not as good as before). You are talking about an all time great (although I am not a fan of his personality, prior use of PEDs, etc), who is still near his peak.

Demented babies like yourself find an excuse to vent nonsense when things are going bad (and I'm sure it's short term) for your team.

I realize that baseball players and not said to be the smartest people on earth, but come on if he was going to take steriods don't you think he would be a little more subtle. Let's see his cousin is accused of being his mule years ago now Arod decides to to back on the juice so what does he do why bring in his cousin of course and parade him all over in public.

If they are really cousins, why is this so terrible? My understanding is that these fellow lost almost everything after the ped scandal of 2009. Maybe Arod is trying to put some money back in his pocket by being a gopher of sorts. It doesn't make any sense at all to have the exact same person supply you with ped's as you had used in the past.

One would think Red Sox fan would be reluctent to even mention PEDs after PED fueled championship runs in 2004* and 2007*.  Speaking of which, Papi seems to have gotten his swing back.......HGH Anyone?

    massillon,

papi is on pace to put pretty similar numbers to last season. Like almost identical. Now curtis granderson on the other hand currently has 17 homers and is on pace for 51. His career high is 30 and he has only hit over 25 once. A little for suspicious eh?

Re: Arod and his cousin relationship under MLB investigation (updated)

Granderson hit 39 or 40 Homers a couple of years back.  He is in the prime of his career and he is playing in a very friendly ballpark for lefties.  You could be right, but their is no track record in his past.  Papi however, tested positive in 03, was all but done two years ago, had a downward trend which is normal and now appears to be the "hitter" he was 6 or 7 years ago.  Questionable.  As for the Yankees, look no further then Bartolo Colon.  If you think that a 38 year guy, has a surgery from a known "HGH Doctor", comes back and is still throwing 95 or 96 into the later stages of a game, and his name isn't Nolan Ryan, after he was all but washed up, well I have some Bridges I would sell you. Bautista of Toronto is another one, (See Brady Anderson).  My point is as I am neither a Yankee fan nor a Red Sox fan is that neither fan should be quick to point the finger regarding PEDs as both franchises having a "Rich" history in the utilization of the stuff.  (As do a lot of franchises) and its fun to tweek such passionate baseball fans.
