I agree and hope that they are both with the Red Sox next year. Although, I have heard many MLB announcers say that if Papelbon gets a 3 year deal, the Red Sox probably won't match it. -

I say make 'em sweat a little.
If a GM jumps and resigns players halfway through a "career year" ( which just coincidentally happens to be a contract year) it sends the signal to all players that they can dog it through the early years of a contract and turn it on when it counts.
Let's see how the 2nd half goes and then we'll talk.
Let's face it, there just aren't that many teams that have Boston's bargaining power. Where are these guys going to go? Tampa Bay? Oakland?....Please don't make me laugh, these guys like playing on the big stage for this team. Neither wants to play on a backwoods team like Seattle after being this long in Boston, even if they could afford them. -

ya know zilla you make a great point. they were talking about it on WEEI this morning. they were in complete agreement about paps especially. where's he gonna go? the cubs? lol.....both these guys know in their insides that this team is hands on one of the three best teams in baseball and a WS contender big time. plus, they both love the big time stage and atmosphere that is fenway park.
