August 18, 2013 - a night that will live in stupidity

I am generally very supportive of my team, players, manager and front office.  But right now I am livid about what happened on August 18, 2013.

Last night's game just may have put more stupidity on display than any single game in history.  This game had it all, a bonanza of baseball boneheadedness.  It wasn't just the Red Sox who were stupid.  All the parties played their role.

Start with the fact that the game was played on a Sunday night with the Red Sox having to fly to San Francisco for a game the next night.  Add in the fact that Red Sox-Yankee games often last about 4 hours, like this one did.  That covers the commercialism and greed angle.

Next we have the A-Rod circus.  Here is the guy who is presumably the biggest offender in the Biogenesis situation.  All the other lesser players have been suspended without a fight.  And here's A-Rod still playing.  Here's A-Rod's lawyers blasting the Yankees and the Yankees firing back.  It seems like the Yankees wish A-Rod was gone.  But there he is playing.

Now here's The Red Sox, an aggrieved party to all of the above.  So how do they handle things?

    By making things worse.

    Let's bean A-Rod.

Sure, I can see why they would want to do that.

But let's wait till the worst possible time to do it.  Let's wait till the third game of the series.  Let's do it when we have a good chance of winning.  Let's do it when our starting pitcher risks getting thrown out of the game early so we can fry our bullpen.  Best of all, let's fire up A-Rod and the Yankees so they can beat us and make us look like idiots.

Many, many posts about our play last night, the plunking, leaving Dempster in etc. but yours, in my opinion, is the best !

Regarding scheduling it is a beautiful day in SF but might be foggy & cool tonight. Giants too flew 6 hours from Miami but as had a day game got here last night while we had a very late unhappy ending game. Monday morning quarterback but we'd been better off if Ump had tossed Dempster after the plunk ! Wow, our guys need start play with little rest with body clocks at 10:15 EST. I did same in Military but I was in my early 20s. Many of these guys are not youngsters. OH well, hope we take at least 2 out of 3.

tis true man! just so totally stupid and so unnecessary. especially at the beginning of the game. however, with that said, a brain farrt is still a brain farrt............no other way to explain it.

Besides being his usual azzhatedness, Im not sure what Arod has done that other cheaters haven't done...so he cheated....so have about 500 other guys...so he has appealed, so have hundreds of others in the past few years....meanwhile the Yanks get to play good cop bad cop all at the same time by saying they are "uncomfortable" with Arod playing but start him anyways....Then we throw in the pitching genius that is Beckett Dempster and we got this sorry state of affairs last nite...

    As always - 100% correct!

As much as A-Rod getting beaned brought a smile to my face, I'd have prefered a win. Of course, with Dempster's mediocrity we may have lost anyway, but it was still the wrong move at the wrong time.

You know what stupidity is .... Not saying something about all the other games they lost by playing stupid? One A-Rod game lost but all the others don't mean as much. Think Sox will lose another game? Will you come back and tell us how stupid it was. A-Rod is nothing to us but to a lot of players playing the game the right way ..... It's Pi   ssing them off real bad. Had Sox won... Maybe ,just maybe you could save your  stupidity for another time. Or maybe you already used the stupidity card about 50 times already.

How about trying to buy the evidence against him?

How about recruiting other players to go to Biogenesis?

How about ratting out his teammates?

How about carrying on a war of words with the Yankee FO?

And I'm 12 for thinking what Dempster did was ok.

    LOL

FTR. I don't have problem with Dempster hitting A-Rod.

I think every pitcher should do it ob=nce, before they retire, like a bucket list thing.

He picked the wrong time to do it and couldn't back it up by shutting A-rod and the Yankees down afterwards.

I know that's lot of info for you to absorb all at once.

Re: August 18, 2013 - a night that will live in stupidity

    All true.

But, as I've been saying right along, it's all to keep the T.V. ratings up.

FOX and ESPN love...no that's not a strong enough word...they are ecstatic, when these Red Sox/ Yankees games have drama, controvery and punches or hit batters. This is their main marketing strategy for MLB.Who cares about the hit and run, sacrifice bunt, double steal or double switch?...we've got violence and fights!!!

You'll see the replay of this when ESPN runs its ads for the nex Red Sox/ Yankees weekend slugfest. Even Vince McMahon couldn't have come up with a more despicaple villain for Red Sox Nation than A-Rod.

The next time these teams play, regardless of where both are in the standings, ratings will be through the roof!!! Inquiring minds will want to know if the Yankees retaliate ( fastball in Big Papi's gut?...Pedroia's hip?..maybe they aim for Jonny Gomes beard?)...Does  A-Rod get hit again?...hey why not?....by the next time these teams play the Red Sox should be firmly entrenched in 3rd place, trailing in the Wildcard , dead in the water.....

    ...thanks alot Dempster.

The umps were the biggest joke of the night, three Yankees were HBP after Arod and the warning.

Girardi gets tossed and CC would have been bounced if he retaliated no doubt.

Blame it all on the commisioner. His all out nuclear war on A-Rod forced Alex to retaliate with the same. Mutually assured destruction. A-Rod can continue playing by appealing. Brilliant. A softer suspension would have A-Rod on the sidelines right now. Potentially A-Rod could win his appeal. Then where would Bud be? Dempster waxing A-Rod was for the players, not for the team, the fans or the city. I really have to credit A-Rod, his demeanor and revenge were both perfect. Yankee fans nust be pleased, and Girardi rushing out to support his guy, buys votes in the clubhouse. All in all, Dempster transformed A-Rod from despicable to victim to hero. Might be Dempster's biggest career accomplishment.
