Folks, softy the clown said the same about Gio Gonzalez last winter.

He thinks Dickey is a fluke.

He wants us to sign Guthrie.

He apparently knows a lot about plague.

Right.  Why get Anderson and his reasonable contract for a 24yo pitcher when we can go sign 23yo Jeremy Guthrie for $34mill!??

Oh, how would relaxed US gambling laws enhance sites like this!

I'm not a gambler by nature or behaviour....it's a "bad" thing for society IMO, overall....but it's the best STFU-ometer in the world.

But Dickey is a fluke, he is 38 years old and have you even looked at his career? Fluke might be the wrong word as a player that old with a lot of expereince obviously has to be good to do what he did. However what about every season prior to 2011 did you even read about him? How many years left does he have and how likely is it he will win 15+ games ever again? It all clicked for one eyar and he will dissapear by 2014.

    1) softy said he'd fizzle out back in May.

    2) Have you bnothered to look at his numbers the last 3 years?

        2.84   1.187

        3.28   1.227

        2.73   1.053

    3) He had more HR/9 than the last 2 years.

    4) His only big outlier was K/9 (8.9 vs 6.3 career)

I wouldn't say 3 straight excellent seasons makes a "fluke" or any word close to that.

       3 yr totals:  2.96   1.150

Softy's got a hair across his better side over any knuckleballer.

I think it's hilarious to call a Cy Young winner a bum nevermind the current Cy winner. Just thinking what you're up against and the odds. Verlander didn't win it this year. Verlander. Yes, I know it's a different league, but wow.

Lester made 7.6M in 2012, Buchholz made 3.5M, Doubront 480K...Sounds like a good deal to me. and certainly not 1st rate money.

    I agree moonslav59.   :)

The Red Sox can make an offer that Billy Beane cannot refuse.

Besides, the A's have a surplus of good starting pitchers.

Gio did well in the all regular season and NL playoffs no DH resthome league!

Dicke's a bum! Just like Wakefield.

Guthrie is a 2nd rate pitcher who will actually have a 2nd rate cost.

Now, tell the readers how you wanted Wakefield for 2M in 2012, when no GM would offer a dollar MLB contract.

That's why I like wagering so much.  If not for wagering, you could claim to be a better pool player all day long.  But once it is put up or shut time, even people with the biggest egos in the world will start to think and start to shrink.

Wakefield 1992 pitching debut july 31, won 3-2 for pirates opponent cardinals, 10 SO's and 5 BB's 2 RBI only from top of batting order, and also 5 S0's pitching agst. top of order and pitch 9 innings.

Pirates 8th rd. pick not bad for an 8th rd. pick and played 17 seasons with the Red Sox. Who's complaining though not me.

The state running a lottery to separate poor people from their money is a bad thing.

A casino owner separating rich people from their wealth, while providing 5,000 jobs, is not a bad thing.

From a generic, non-casino perspective, it usually works out well.  The guy opening up a bagel store in an Irish neighborhood was a gamble that now employs 10 people.  The people that gambled that a hole-in-the-wall place that served both Mexican and Japanese sushi found it to be a very good gamble.

If a few numbskulls like Softy would take the time to actually look up Dickey's record maybe they would post something beside basic stupidity. His last three seasons have all been pretty solid. 2011 with over 200 innings and a 3.24ERA. Trouble is the W-L record of 8-13 is the first you see before looking closer which Softy wouldn't know how. His W-L record is probably because he got no run support. Any pitcher with over 30 starts, 200 plus innings with a 3.24ERA and a 1.22WHIP and a measely 54 Walks deserves better than 8-13. He pitching close to 7 innings per outing.

    Softy, do some research.

Also knuckleballers as history show can pitch into their fourties which means Dickey at thirty nine would be worth giving a 2-3 year deal.
