    Bailey to DL?

I read something on WEEI about this. If this guy is out, can I ask a stupid question. Does Bard go in as the closer ? Maybe this is the reason why they waited so long to announce the rotation.

Think it would be Melancom and/or Aceves, AL.

    Re: Bailey to DL?

Probably to the DL retroactive to a few days ago. This season is not starting well. Serious questions about the pitching, especially the BP, and injuries already cropping up. I'm not convinced about the O just yet either. I think the main lineup should have been on the field together a LOT more than they have been so far this ST, especially over this last week. The schedule is murder. Hopefully they can come together and gell as the season begins. It could happen that way, a good start would help out a lot. Another start like last year, and boy are we gonna see the crap flying.

Thus guy is injured an awful lot. I think they are going to miss Papelbon badly and this is not a good start to the season at all. How can you depend on this guy in the AL East ? This is not Oakland anymore.

    Re: Bailey to DL?

Exam - Bah, I think the O will be fine.  I'll be surprised if the '12 team doesn't outscore the high-scoring '11 team.  Hard to see slippage at any position, easy to see large gains at LF & RF.  I think our offense from C will also improve significantly, despite its strong '11 performance.

Pitching, as ever, is the real concern.  Post Papelbon - and I'm glad we didn't pay 50/4 for him - I think Ben did a good job adding Bailey and Melancon so cheaply to augment Bard and Aceves.  But.....the 4 quality dominos started falling once Bard sniffed a starting role...Bailey's uncertain health, Aceves not a proven closer, and Melancon is unproven outside closing for a 100+ loss team.

You're probably right about the O chilli. If Melancon and Bailey pan out to be what we think the bp will be fine. The thumb injury on Bailey concerns me a little, even if it's not serious it's a cloudy start to the season. Want to see everybody healthy and ready to go for Detroit. Verlander awaits.

This will be the opportunity to establish Cook as the #5 and give Aceves the Closer shot. He was my choice from the time Pap signed with the Phils.
Establish Bard and Melancon as set up guys.

Padilla, Albers,Morales and Bowdoin to do the grunt work.

I don't know Kieth Foulke did just fine as I recall coming from Oakland...Let's say we give the kid a chance to get on the field before we conclude that he's not up to the task.

While I too appriciate the contributions Papelbon made to the 2007 team and love his moixy. His reputation IMHO has taken hit since....Remeber he Johnathan Papelbon was the guy on the mound with a chance to clinch a post season berth last year, only to cough up the lead in game #162 last year vs the Orioles. It was he Johnathan Papelbon who was on the mound with a 2 run lead, with 2 outs, 2 strikes on Chone Figgins vs the Angels in 2009 in an elimanation game and coughed it up...So in his last two must close games even the mighty Johnathan Papelbon fell short. I'm pretty sure that Bailey given the chance, could do the same pitching even with a bum thumb...

I hope you guys are right because this guy is as brittle as a china plate, hurt way too much to expect him to save games in a back to back series. I am concerned about this guy. I do not expect him back until late May at this point. I can see Bard going back into closer role. Remember that bullpen by commitee disaster in 2003.

Are you a hand specialist? Have you viewed his x-rays and MRI's?

You have no clue as to even the extent of the injury yet you can predict when he will return. LOL!
