    Baseball's Rosetta Stone course

Translating some popular baseball phrases:   Good clubhouse guy =  Cheerful, but not too good on the field.  Bulldog = 4 plus ERA .  Eats innings = 5 plus ERA.  Pitches to contact = No fastball.  Gives you a chance to win = Lacks good stuff, better score plenty.  Not a good fit for Fenway = Don't want to spend the money.  Gritty ballplayer = Not a lot of talent.  Good contact hitter = No pop.  Weak free agent class =  We can't afford the better ones.   Building for the future = Let's hope at least a couple of our prospects actually pan out.  Player's manager = Weak , lacks control.  Bridge year = This team stinks.

The Rosetta Stone software is not translation software. There are many apps and software packages that do that.

Rosetta Stone is the world's most popular and most advanced program for learning a new language. It's also the most intuitive, using a mixture of words, pictures, speaking and listening.

    spot on!

i think i hear this exact quote from Josh Beckett after a miserable Lackey outing a few years ago .  "John Lackey is a bulldog out there on the mound,he eats inning, pitches to contact and gives you a chance to win every night. The guys love playing behnd him(they must love when he shows them up after en error), he is a great clubhouse guy"..

No , they are mine. Obviously not in every case , but very often we have to read between the lines when we see these kind of quotes. They are frequently used as substitutes for mediocrity.

    Here's another one: 'ownership group.'

Means: a group of business men who know how to make money...mostly by ripping of the public.....they know squat about baseball or sports or much of anything else.

If DGalehouse has had it with the Red Sox and feels as if they are doomed and never do a single thing right then he should follow a new team. Enjoy yourself, it is later than you think. You owe it to yourself to be happy and not miserable all of the time.

If you've had it with this forum, maybe you should find a new one. I don't get you. You claim to care about this forum, but you hate at least half the people who post here, a lot of them staunch Red Sox fans. Maybe you just love being miserable...

Is that our only alternative ? Either shut up and never question the team's moves ( or lack of moves) ; or give up and support another team ?   Sounds like a pretty harsh ultimatum.  And here , I thought this was a forum for the exchange of ideas and opinions on the state of OUR TEAM.

So don't do it. Pretty simple really. We'd miss you but we'd manage somehow.

Staunch Red Sox fans? In the postseason? C'mon. This is a Yankee playground in the off-season that's why your friends all show up back here. It's a fun way for them to spend their off-season. Not only do we get Babe, but Mikey shows up with his 1,000 aliases, some that have 20-something posts since 2000-whatever just to tell us how much they hate this team. Maybe one day you'll wake up.
