Re: Big Moves Imminent?

We won two WS because of an already talented team and great farm which Ben doesn't have in place. Since then? Here are just a few examples explaining our decline
#1 Crawford, Renteria, Lugo, Jenks, Dice K, Glavine, Penny, Drew, Lackey, Jenks and resigning Beckett etc.
#2 Keeping Wake in the fold much too long and still not improving his spot in the rotation, or rotation at all.
Wake was kept as a #6 for the most part. Even in his last year, 7-8 with a 5.12 is decent for your #6 SP.
#3 Keeping Tek too long, then trading Masterson for Martinez and now having a less talented version of Tek in Salty.
The VMart trade was a great trade. Masterson is 30-45 since he left. He was 11-15 last year with a 4.93. Someone will have to explai~n to me why trading an 11-15 pitcher with a 4.93 for an all-star catcher is such a bad move and keeping a 7-8 pitcher with a 5.12 is such a bad move. In addition, VMart's comp was Barnes and Owens.
#4 Not resigning Beltre and keeping Youk at 1B until Rizzo and/or Middy was ready.
#5 Losing Rizzo because of AGon who had to go in order to dump some of the above mistakes.
4-5 together-I don't remember anyone not liking the Gonzo deal at the time. Even now, in retrospect, we got about a 10 WAR for about $23M. That is beyond excellent. For that, we basically exchanged Rizzo and Kelly for Webster and RDLR. I like both sets of prospects but it is way to early to determine which set is better. Rizzo has a nice start, but his ABs have been heavily weighted towards righties.
#6 Misreading the talent, or lack of in Kalish's and Reddick while spending more on Cody Ross.
Isn't it kind of anti-intuitive to say we mis-read Reddck, but you're already judging Kalsih on even less ABs?
#7 Trading Scutaro in favor of Aviles and Punto? At least here we had a plus side by finally gave Ciriaco an opportunity to play.
In other words our SS, RF, IB, C and starting pitching hasn't improved much at all in years. When it did, it was only temporary. Now we are all once again wondering why our first signing after Papi is another backup catcher "like Shoppach" last season.
Scutaro is not a SS. I liked the signing, but it was just marginal. With Aviles shwoing about the same level of talent as Scutaro, it made no sense to have both of them on the team.
And I don't care when our next signing is. I want effectiveness and efficiency, not speed.
