I'm looking forward to the Red Sox vs. A's series.

It's more like Current Red Sox players (Red Sox) vs. Former Red Sox players (A's).   LOL

I believe the Athletics have five former Red Sox players (Josh Reddick, Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie, Brandon Moss and Bartolo Colon), but the Red Sox have four former Athletics players (Andrew Bailey, Jonny Gomes, Stephen Drew and Craig Breslow).

I doubt the Red Sox will sweep the home games against the San Diego Padres, who are better than some posters apparently think.

Well, a 4 game sweep isn't a high probability against any team, but it's not so much that the Padres may be overlooked, but that the Red Sox are also better than some posters apparently think.  They're currently playing great ball and they're playing at home.  Even the best teams in the league wouldn't want to play them now, especially in Fenway.

...these West Coast trips are typically sub .500 trips.

I thought the same thing, but then I went to look. We did well in 2010 and 2011, but bad before then and after then.

    2012:  2-5 (Sea 4/Oak 3) and 1-8 (3 LAA/ 3 Oak/ 3 Sea) 3-13 total

    2011:  5-1 (2 Oak/ 4 LAA) and 1-2 (Sea) as part of a trip with MN.  6-3 total

    2010:  6-4 (4 Sea, 3 Oak, 3 LAA) and 4-2 (oak & sea) 10-6 total

    _______________________________________________________

2009: 2-4 (LAA and Oak) and 2-4 (LAA and Sea) 4-8 total

    2008: 3-1 (Oak- 2 in Japan), 1-5 (Oak & Sea) and 3-3 (LAA & Sea) 7-9 total

    2007: 1-3 (Oak), 2-4 (SD & Sea), and 3-3 (Sea & LAA) 6-10 total

The A's also had Okajima earlier this year.

Moon, thanks for looking that up. 36-49 over 6 years says it all. I hope we can deliver a 2010 or 2011 record, but I am seeing a .500 record out there as a success.
