They could make them all PTBNL and wait until the season is over.

Point of this thing, in my opinion, is not what you get back. It's getting back to doing things the right way

[QUOTE]I think it will be a boost to the Red Sox and their clubhouse if this happens but I think that Carl Crawford will return high dividends after he recovers from surgery; he showed signs of his ability before he went under the knife. But going to the National League and not having to face him will at least be some comfort. Beckett may rebound as well in the National League. Gonzalez will be ecstatic going home with a huge paycheck thanks to the Sox. I think we should have enough money now to get Millar, Ramirez, and Schilling, who could use a few bucks.

On the contrary, Adrian could of gotten more money on the open market.

So, what have they won with "most runs scored in MLB"?????
They're getting tow top flight pitching prospects, and young 2nd baseman and a journeyman 1st baseman.
Plus they're dleteting 260 million dollars owed guys who don't want to be here.
    Gonzalez obviously was a problem.
Word is, you can't tell him anything, and is a know it all.

With all the money freed up they could go after Josh Hamilton and a top pitcher to go along with Busholtz and Lester next season.     We will be stuck with Lackey and maybe with no Beckett he can be the "good" Lackey of a few years back.

6:45pm: The Dodgers have agreed to send Webster, De La Rosa, Loney, Sands, and De Jesus to the Red Sox, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter).  Meanwhile, a source tells Rob Bradford of WEEI (Twitter link) not to expect a deal to be completed tonight.

6:42pm: The Red Sox have yet to secure permission from Beckett, who has 10-and-5 rights, or Crawford, who has a partial no-trade clause, a source tells Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com.  However, neither player is expected to block the deal.

In my best Geico gecko voice: "Adrian Gonzalez, no problem. Josh Beckett, no problem. Carl Crawford, no problem. Nick Punto!! Fuggedaboutit! No chance mate."

For real, I'm olde enough to remember the day the Sox purchased Joe Rudi and Rollie Fingers. This feels like that. We know how that turned out. Hope this one goes through.

[QUOTE]You could go out and sign Shane Victorino  as either Crawford's replacement of Ellsbury's replacement. Rock solid player, who's battle tested. You could also sign Youlilis for next year, since Valentine and Beckett will be gone, to play 1st base. Plenty of options. believe me.

Victorino?    He is a dirty player who is NOT that good.    Keep him away from Boston and re-sign Ross instead.

Delarosa is better than Beckett, and Webster is a good prospect. Good hitters can be bought, and you don't need a many of them if you get good pitching. According to Edes Delarosa is a top of the rotation guy. Add him to CB, Lester, Morales, and Doubront and we should be better.

Mayne THIS will help explain things:

This is insane RT Currently the Sox have $106.9M on books for next yr. If they make trade, pre-arb obligations drop to $45.6M!

Holdup may be Beckett, who hasn't waived his 5-10 rights.

Im with you JBay... if this deal goes down, then the Sox are betting on prospects to come through (and we all know how that can turn out) and they, imo, wont be contending for several years...unless they sign big free agents and then your are financially back where you started from...
