So you take away a lot of offense and dont improve your biggest present need which is pitching... so they get some young arms but the staff for the next two years doesnt get better unless through spending money in free agency...

Beckett and Lackey are both done by 15 about what time these proscepts would be ready, so do you piece meal for fours waiting? What is the Sox rotation next year Buchholz, Lester, Lackey, Doubrant, Rubby? Is that any better than Buchholz, Lester, Beckett, Lackey, Doubrant?

Who the hell ever paid a dime to see boring as anything no charisma, Adrian Gonzalez?
What are you his cousin? He hasn't even match Ortiz's numbers this year.
18 HRs in Fenway on two years.
Easy to replace. Overrated, overpaid, clubhouse probelm.
    Good riddance!
Yeah, like there's no way the Sox can get another 1st baseman or an OF to replace the big bust Crawford. OOOH we'll never win another game!
Idiots! What have they won with these overpaid clowns?

Way to risky, pumpsie to give up a player like Agone, IMO They don't come along often. Especially giving up so much for a pitcher, who are all a pitch away from TJ Surgery. Dont like it

They won the WS with Doug Mientk[whatever] and Kevin Millar. There are other ways to replace production, especially when you have resources.

Agreed the pitching needs improvement .  So this is bascially telling us that the Sox have no pitching prospects in their system and have to get them somewhere else?  Also, prospects are just that... no proven and there is no guarantee they will succeed in the bigs.... look at the pitching prospects the Sox had a few years back and where are they now?

I think so. And Webster could work out too. Gotta do something about the pitching...its gotten MUCH worse since 07. Plus $$ is freed up to buy a 1B or improve the offense at other positions.

The problem is there is no 1b out there and the pitching is about as good as this year. The team got worse.

in order for the sox to shed their biggest contracts, blunders, and ingrates all in one deal, Im thinking that Ben/Sox must have serious blackmail photos of certain Dodger bigwigs.....there can be no other explanation why any team would take these guys from the sox and save our franchise...

Freeing  up $$ yes but to spend on who? And so paying for free agents gets you back where you started and the supposed reason you are doing this deal?

MIKE NAPOLI and/or allows you to pay for Ortiz - 2 year/35 million if you want to......(MN @ 2/25)..........not to mention allows you easily resign Ross (3/20)....and oh by the way, now you can try and get Jake for an 80 million dollar extension (hope that this down year has him very nervous)......

Payroll down to 45 million. They can sign anyone they want.
Lots of nice prospects waiting in the minors.
Can't believe some people fail to grasp the big picture here.
    Good future!

Money has to be sorted out in the Red Sox-Dodgers deal. Sox will assume some but how much is one of the things being worked on

You really have to wonder if it is going to be over 100 million next year. I think it is around 110 and the Sox finish around 500.

You don't have to replace all of that offense if the pitching is better. And you don't have to replace it at 1B.
