He was a closer just for one year just like Madson of Phillies.  But Bluejays didnt part away their top prospects for him.  Boston can do that with the A's for Bailey!!

If the Sox were worried about a closer they would have signed one by now.

Actually, John Sickels rated Nestor Molina as their second best prospect overall and highest ranked pitcher this offseason...

And Molina's numbers were eye-poppingly good.  And he is considered to be almost, if not entirely, major league ready.

What is ridiculous is that the same article quoted scouts that say his potential is ranked well below his numbers...how dumb is that.  How can your potential be less than your performance?

It's called projectability.  His performance is against minor leaguers, but they're referring to what his potential is in the majors. There are guys with good command that can get minor leaguers out but lack the stuff to succeed at the ultimate level.

I think a good example was Casey Kelly's first full season pitching in the minors.  None of his pitches blew you away but his numbers were outstanding.  As he's moved up the ladder, his stuff hasn't played as well.

The Sox are getting their butts kicked so far this offseason. Last year they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they would have spent just a little more and got Scott Downs instead of Jenks. Here we go again, good choices going by the boards. If Bard and Aceves start, and Papelbon is not here, who the heck is going to be in the bullpen? Either get a top starter, or move Bard in there and get good relievers. Why do they keep saying there's no decent pitching out there this year? I see quite a few that I wouldnt mind having.

Everybody wanted Epstein gone, and everybody wanted Francona gone.  And now everyone is complaining about the replacements already.  Honeymoon in Reno!

December is usuaully the most active offseason month, and it is still early.  Relax.

And please don't be the idiot who starts saying "Pitchers and catchers report in 2 months!!!  When are they gonna do something??"  Anyone who says that should be sterilized.  Let it end here.

This is when it happens.  Mostly this month, some in January.  I have no idea how some of these fans can tolerate a 162 game season.
