Bobby V will not be fired

He needs his chance with players who will play under his rules. Not the babies who got their big contracts, then quit on the team, most of who are gone now. See Adrian Gonzalez with the Dodgers, .228

He'll win about 73 games this year.  That's 17 games less than Tito won last year with basically the same crew.

The last time our record was this bad, our attendance was 811,172.

Considering that was when we were considered a small market team, Valentine is quite likely the worst manager in our history.

Absolutely. The manager is wholely responsible for the personnel on the field, especially the starting pitching.

Valentine has been a mess all season long.  Time for the Globe reporters to take a stand instead of just guessing what they think is going to happen.

WEEI and the Herald have already called for Valentine's head and so have many, many fans.  If nothing else, his mouth has been enough to have been fired much earlier in this season.

I am counting him as gone so that someone else has a chance to make things better next season.   No more than two days after the season ends, he will be fired (toolate but rightfully so).

Valentine will be fired.  There's really no reason to keep him managing a team that, for the most part, doesn't want to play for him.  He just has not inspired.

Same catcher, 1B, 3B, LF, CF and DH.

Different SS, but equal.  Lost CC for a fair amount of time, but much better off with Ross over an injured Drew.

Got a few more starts out of our big three.

BV got the worst end of the closer, certainly, but outside of that, pretty close.

Nothing here.  Youk missed the last 2 months in 2011.  You still won't come close to the 17 games worse we are this year.  Again, he isn't the cause of every problem, but it is hard to argue that, with the worst record since 1966, that this isn't one of the worst managing jobs in the history of baseball.

His firing is a foregone conclusion, and it's already been decided.  The record is brutal, and while it's not all his fault, he doesn't have the respect of his players, many of his coaches, most of the fan base and some of his actions have been shown that he is clearly out of touch.

Valentine has to go, but I can't blame him for the horrible pitching by Beckett, Lester et al or the AAA lineup we've had since the end of August.

Last year Tito had Beckett and Lester pitching well until September.  He had Papelbon, Bard and the good Aceves instead of the bad Aceves, Melancon and Padilla.

Josh Beckett 2011 ERA: 2.89; Josh Beckett 2012 (Boston) ERA: 5.23

How many games you wanna give me for that? I have told you over and over again that this season's debacle is not primarily Valentine's fault, it is the fault of the players he was given to work with. You really think that because Valentine and not Francona was managing this year these two losers pitched worse? I could almost buy the "off year" theory, but not that they got hammered all year long because of the manager.

Breidey concluded before he was even hired that Valentine was the worst manager around. Therefore, now that the team has failed this year, he feels obliged to warp the facts to suit his theory. I am not saying that Valentine did a good job, but only a small portion of the disaster that was this year is attributable to him. He should go so that a better manager can help oversee the rebuilding process. Cherington should also go, and Lucchino should be removed from baseball ops.

So the most injuries in 25 years are his fault, and the #1 & #2 starters have won fewer than 15 games between them is also his fault. If Beckett and Lester had 17 and 15 wins, an 18 game swing. They'd be fighting Baltimore for the wild card spot. The worst manager suddenly becomes the savior. There goes your 17 game nonsense.  Last year going into, what Terry liked to call crunch time, the Sox were being talked about as the best team in baseball. After almost 8 years of overcoming Terry's nonsense, the players succumbed to his inabilities and folded. What should have been considered a dynasty, got to one WS in his last 7 years and failed to make the playoffs the last 2 years. In a battle between Francona and Valentine and their respective abilities to manage a baseball game, you can consider Francona unarmed.
