    Re: Boras Misreads Market

I think you should lose 2, 1st rounders. One 1 year, 1 following year,  if you sign a Free Agent with a QO. One way to protect small market teams.

The top free agents still get good offers. Drew is an average ball player.

That would imply that K. Morales is also average.

Drew had an above-average season last year.  He's not good enough to warrant a big contract and a lost draft pick along with it.

This story isn't over yet, anyway.  He'll be signed eventually by a team that needs a shortstop due to injury or ineffectiveness.

No doubt that he will get signed at some point. But he is obviously not in great demand.

Makes you wonder what kind of offers these two (Drew & Morales) would be getting, if no lost draft pick was attached.

I gotta think the Yanks would think about Drew, since they would only be losing a 3rd round pick.

    Re: Boras Misreads Market

There is some crazy talk, especially by moonslav, in this thread.  Drew turned down a king's ransom, enough money to retire on for life, to play for the reigning WS champs.  Had he taken the money, he could still have played MLB next year, 2015.  These guys are paid insane amounts of money, so much they have lost touch with reality.

I give Boras tons of credit for being very good at his job, but overall I do not think he is good for MLB or for the fans.  The reserve clause was blown away several decades ago, but Boras insists that players today are little more than underpaid chattel.  What a joke.

His only goal is to make money.  He doesn't really believe that these guys are being used and are serfs or something.  That narrative helps his cause though.  He uses the media pulpit to try and move the goalposts further in his direction.  He has zero interest in his public image.  So, he doesn;t care if someone thinks he is out-of-touch or an azz when he talks about the woes of the mlb contract-seeker.

The Boras claim that players are stuck on a merry go round of Qualifying Offers is ridiculous. If that were true, the "poor"  mid level player would get $14M per year for say 3-4 years or $56M! With that kind of payday the QO is making agents expendable!!!!

    Re: Boras Misreads Market

Boras didn't misread themarket, it is all about the draft pick. And Drew already signed a one-year deal. How many more one-year deals should he sign? He must eventually want to find a home for his family, and not have his kids go from school to school in different states. It's not always about the money, especially money for one year.
