In response to GreenPartyCelt's comment:
Many believe Murdoch will own the Yankees in a year or two?
And where did you come up with that piece of information?
First I've heard of it and I follow the Yankees pretty close.
It is still speculation, babe, and using the phrase "takes the helm" is just a bit of provocative hyperbole ...But you might need to "follow the Yankees" just a bit closer. Murdoch is looking to build a new international sports network, and the Yankees would be a nice piece to incorporate, even though he is probably able to do that now to a real extent since he owns half of the YES network.. . It remains speculation, but his son James Murdoch is on the board of Yankee Global Enterprises, and I doubt that Murdoch and company can ultimately resist the temptation to buy the Yankees outright....It's not a done deal, but they are already doing casting calls for the New York Foxes, the hot Yankee cheerleaders that Marduke plans to parade atop the Yankee dugout...Nah, just kidding about the cheerleader thang...
I'm not babe.
Murdoch is about media.
YES Network and the NY Yankees 2 different animals.
And your theory is at this point a bunch of bs.
Speculation about as likely (to happen) as the Mayan apocalypse Dec 21.
You need to get out more, TWM, or try reading and doing a little research in your spare time....Rupert Murdoch and News Corp./News Limited are the dominant owners of Australia's National Rugby League, the premiere rugby league Down Under. Last time I looked, rugby leagues are still made up of sports teams...No one said Murdoch's purchase of the Yankees is a foregone conclusion...Even if he does not buy the team outright in a few years, his influence will be enormous..."Mr. I Follow the Yankees Closely" obviously had no clue ("first I've heard of it") about Murdoch's involvement with the team or YES, and so now you're getting grumpy and annoyed about the entire matter...O well, at least you have heard about that Mayan apocalypse thang, so you must do SOME reading....
So Murdoch has a rugby team which could validate your fantasy that he'll purchase the Yankees.
The truth is that he smells money in owning YES and has the means and foot hold in the media markets to expand it. End of story.
I've followed the Yankees since the mid 1950s, it's been speculated the Steinbrenners would sell ever since GS passed but whenever questioned the family denies they will ever part with the team.
