Bye Bye Drew once Crawford is back

Reddick has got to play ahead of Drew. In fairness Drew looks like his career ended last year.

I agree 100%! Enough is enough, I am done with seeing Drew roll a ground ball to 2nd every time he is up to bat. If you put Reddick in the 7th spot after Crawford, these 2 can create extra runs with CC speed and Reddick's hot bat.

You know things are going bad for Drew when even he shows emotion. Did you see how he flicked his bat in disgust and swore to himself after his strikeout in the 9th inning? I've never witnessed him do that before. I'm glad to see him finally care about something.

As for releasing him, I think that would be uneccessarily harsh. He's still a good defensive outfielder. We're also about 6 weeks away from the September roster expansion. The Red Sox should relegate him to the role of fifth outfielder for now, and seventh outfielder in September. I'd also be inclined to leave him off the playoff roster, unless he magically reverts to his 2007-2008 form.

As reported during the game on Fox Sports, Carlos Beltran may be coming here.  He's willing to drop his no-trade clause to play for the Sox.  Have to put him in the 3rd slot with AGON batting cleanup. After Youk and Ortiz, Crawford would be batting 7th.  How great is that lineup!

Good defensive outfielder?  He allowed a Kotchman out to turn into a triple.

I think you all forget about two players lower on the ladder than Drew, Mac and Jake. Inepstein will do something with one of those two before Crawford comes back. Do not be surprised if a Matt Kemp blockbuster is announced tomorrow morning or on Monda.

Reddick continues to hit the hard stuff, continues to jump on changeups (which seem to be the bane of Navarro).

Reddick is laying off pitches outside the strike zone. Only Youkilis and Scutaro are less likely to swing at a ball. Yet he is swinging at pitches IN the strike zone, 78% of the time (leading the team by a wide margin). Hard to get a hitter out with that kind of pitch discrimination.

andrewmitch, would you consider Doubront or Miller (if used out of the pen) as "bona fide" lefty relievers? Or are you thinking of a lefty specialist? Wouldn't be at all surprised if the Sox spring for one of those at the trade deadline.

Um, kind of a small sample to be cannonizing Reddick.
Don't you think that Theo's pursuit of another RF, despite Reddick's two week run, says a lot about how the organization really feels about Reddick?

Could just be due diligence. Let's see what he actually pulls the trigger on.

And tbrod, I agree that we don't know what Reddick can do. All I'm saying is that the early returns suggest that he belongs in the majors. I would GUESS that he is at least an average major league hitter already.

    Andrew,

He got ya on this one. :o)   If there's a way to insult Jake, he'll do it.  Thing is, I don't he really is serious.  Consistent, yes; serious, no,

The dude is just so whacked out   He's gone from sad, to pathetic, to almost funny at this point.  Pretty soon he'll be telling us which hot dog vendors are better players than Ells.

There are 2 players who should go and go now, Lackey and Drew. However it could be done than so should it be done. I realize Lackey is not going anywhere but Drew can be released.

No, obviously if you commit to benching Drew than JD has some reasonable value as a benchman, sub, etc.,

Tito needs to decide wether to directly bench Drew until such a time they may need him.

Re: Bye Bye Drew once Crawford is back

Kemp looks awfully good right now, which is precisely why a deal is unlikely.  No one is predicting that trade.

Meanwhile, keeping Ellsbury in CF is an absolute no-brainer, one of the biggest bargains in MLB, and a necessity in view of Crawford's outlandish salary.  In all of MLB, Jake is in the top ten in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, and steals--and 20th in OPS and tied for 40th in rbi's (with 51).  And, unlike J.D. Drew in his prime, Ellsbury can play every day.  He is having a breakout season, one that fulfills the promise of 2007 and 2009, and softy wants to dump him.

Next year the Sox will have Crawford in LF, Jake in CF, and Reddick in RF.  They can surely find a decent righty to be the 4th outfielder.  If Navarro can hit, he could be the sixth infielder and the fifth outfielder combined--and another righty bat.  Lurking out there are two other potential good bats--Kalish (a switch hitter) and Lavarnway, a righty catcher who could probably be converted to whatever.

Like some others, I do not understand the fixation on adding a righty bat.  The acquisition of AGon and departure of Beltre has beyond a doubt produce a better lineup, which has only been made better by the unexpected contributions of two other lefty bats--Ellsbury and Ortiz.   The Sox record against lefty starters this year is better than their record against righty starters.

It certainly does, double talker. Say something, get nailed, then change the subject. Once again, hypocrisy reigns with your repertoire.

well unfortunately if I want to avoid harnazz there is only a 3 hour span within a 24 hour day that I can safely come here and post without being harassed.

Sadly your boy is here for 21 hours straight, and now you have to show up during the peaceful hours and make trouble.

Can't either of you figure out something better to do for some of the day?
