funny thing though, bill, he has been that one slice of pizza away for years now and still hasn't gone down.  He has been durable, reliable, and shown great stamina.  Sure, perhaps his risk of heart disease is great.  But that probably wouldn't kick in until after his playing days are over anyway.  But, people have been predicting the demise of the big man at the hand of his food-intake for a long time and it has been proven overstated.

No Bill - it is an additional $25 mill guaranteed for one more year with a vested option for another.

Hate to say this but the Sox sure could use that 300 lb pitcher who is one slice of pizza away from going downhome!  He has been more reliable and durable than any of our beer swilling starters.

What took Cashman so long? Why wait until the weekend before the opt out clause to get this deal done? Your season's been over for weeks and they could have gotten this deal done. What message does this send to the kids in the minors? That your GM will wait HOURS before making what everyone knows is the right move? The GM in Detroit would have gotten it done sooner with MUCH less angst on the part of the Yankee organization. Who knows how this delay of a deal will affect the psyche of your team, much less the kids in your minors. And, what's up with this left shoulder clause? If they had Duncan from St. Louis on the staff, they'd know whether there was a problem with CC's shoulder, whether it is serious or whether it is fixable. Are they hiding something from you? Remember how they mishandled Wang? Does CC have a shoulder injury they're ignoring? Could this be the reason he didn't do as well down the stretch as in past years and why the Yankees REALLY went to a 6-man rotation--in order to hide and gloss over CC's injury?

CC is a very good pitcher.  I wish he was on the Sox.  Ours guys aren't as big or fat and still can't get the job done.  Although they were working real hard on getting fat in the clubhouse this past season.....lol.

The Yanks had to keep him, CC had some leverage with getting the additional dollars because of this but the guy will only be 36 at the end of the contract, probably past his best years but there are plenty of guys who are still very good at 36.

Everyone comments on his weight but there is no real history of injury concerns.

This was a must move for the Yankees but it doesn't change the fact that 2-5 are still not filled.

Smart move, keep him happy, now Cashman can move onto other pitcher signings.

But he was only worth that much to the Yanks ....

Why is everyone convinced that CC is full of pizza? Isn't it at all possible he's filled with beer and chicken?

Btw, I have to admit as immature as it sounds CCNeed$abath, with the dollar sign in it to boot, is pretty funny. At least for those who think having a little fun with your rivals shouldn't be against the law here.

Having said that, it's clear Bill's OP was removed. Ridiculous.

Agree with you and CC has always been one of my favorite pitchers in MLB.  He has always had a weight problem.  Although, he had lost weight this year and was in great shape and I am not sure why he gained a considerable amount of weight towards the end of the season.

Not allowed to upstage the WS with major announcements.  I am sure this has been hammered out over the last several weeks,  but had to wait til baseball was completely done before could be official.

Having CC remain in the stable will not hurt in attracting other pitching talent going forward as well...

He's going to stroke out on national TV during a start. Then some idiot announcer will ask, "What do you think's wrong with him?"

You'll have to admit Nova makes an attractive 6th starter. And I'll take Freddie at 7.
