    B 4 we even know if it's a bargain

Did Napoli miss any time last year because of a hip injury?

Hey, we can't all be stone cold realists like your average Yankee fan.

I just think it's an easy thing to do, not being a fan of a team and shooting down optimistic statements.

But, if "easy" is your thing, have at it...

The power is there.  THe durability is the only question mark.  I love to hear that he is getting seen by specialists, the AVN was caught early, and he  is undergoing treatment.

According to medscape.com no medical treatment has proven effective in preventing or arresting the disease process.

Most other sites that I have read about AVN say something along the lines of

To reach these goals, the doctor may first use conservative, however, these treatments rarely provide lasting improvement. Therefore, most patients will eventually need surgical treatment.

Right - 'most' and 'eventually'.  That's a couple of key words, especially the second one.

And you conveniently skipped the  "no medical treatment has proven effective in preventing or arresting the disease process" part.

    I didn't skip reading it.

The bottom line here is pretty obvious.  Nobody really knows how long it will be before Napoli's hips start to really become a problem.  Could be this year, could be not for 5 years or more.  But there seems to be a good chance they're not going to be a problem this year.

Have any of the Red Sox posters gone over to Yankee forums in recent days to express false concerns about ARod this season.  Do we have any posters here who enjoy trolling the Yankee forums?

Probably not.  We also only have a couple of posters who enjoy saying the same things over and over and over like you do.

The breakdown on Napoli's bonus structure per Alex Speier is:

    $500,000 each for 30, 60, 90, 120 days on the active roster

    $500,000 each for 300, 325, 350, 375 plate appearances

    $1 million each for 400, 475, 550, 625 plate appearances

If Napoli is active for a minimum of 165 days in 2013, he will get the full $8 million in incentives for a total of $13 million

What happens if he is active for the 165 days but doesn't reach the top end of the # of plate appearances?

Looks like that one overrides the other ones, so if he's active for 165 he gets the full 13 million, end of story.

I think he gets the 8M at 165 days active regardless of anything else.

Re: Can Napoli be a 40+ HR 1B if he stay healthy?

Sounds to me like the 165 days active supercedes all other contingencies, which means he gets the 13 million regardless of games played or plate appearances (to me this is only fair, as the restrictions on his salary are health related and not production related...so that if Farrell decideds he wants to platoon him for production reasons, Napoli is not penalized financially).

I also have to agree with halifax here.  I seems to me that Napoli's hip problem is NOT likely to affect his playing time THIS season.  Napoli is banking on it, and Cherington protected himself against it.  But his hip has been asymptomatic so far-- he was caught by surprise by the diagnosis, as were the Sox.  Brett Favre played until a ripe old age in the NFL with the condition.  No telling how long Napoli can play before the hip causes him to go on the DL and probably end his career.  I am quite optimistic that he can play 140 or so games at 1B and hit his 25 - 30 HRs.

As someone said, he and Ortiz should be a formidable 3-4 or 4-5 combo.   As productive as Manny and Ortiz?  Probably not.  But pretty close, IME.

I agree, but my post was in response to drewski saying he was glad that they caught it early and that he was receiving treatment for it, not whether it would affect him this season or not.

And it was a good counter point.

I haven't found any posters on Yankee boards that try to police them and make everyone post the same party line.

You would have made a great Nazi.

Simmer down now.  This is just a bit over the line.  Please stop playing the Nazi card.  It's the lowest form of hyperbole.

Yes!  The back & forth whining about the scary yankee fans is ridiculous, but saying someone would have made a good Nazi is deplorable!  Just relax.  I get sick & tired of Kimmy & others whining about Yankee fans & multiple screen names, but you might consider ignoring the whiners as you expect the whiners to ignore you?

    Lighten up Francis :)

It was in reference to him wanting everyone to post alike, kinda like how Hitler thought everyone should look alike, the whole blonde hair, blue eyes thing.

I'm afraid it's you that needs to lighten up.

Wow! Glad you explained the reference! It was so deep & nuanced I might have missed it otherwise.

If you don't get it, you never will?

p.s.  In light of this explanation, which had completely escaped me, your telling someone they would have made a great Nazi is completely appropriate.

I hope I don't need to explain the use of sarcasm???

None of you and I mean none of you have zero history to go back on that shows Napoli will play in 140+ games or hit 30+ homers. la la la land

One 30-homer season and several more 20-homer seasons with <400 ABs tell me there's every reason to think he can put up very good power numbers IF he plays a full season. That's where the uncertainty lies - whether he can stay healthy. I'd rather take the optimistic side of that, but that's just my nature; others will assume the worst right from the get-go, and that's fine. Time will tell.
