In response to softlaw2's comment:
To be honest, the racism that will be exposed in that movie is so embarassing to people like me who don't have a racist bone in my body, that it pains me too much to watch it. If you people have read my older posts, you know that my brother-in-law is Black as are colleagues of mine at the hospital...wonderful people. It's so hurtful that it's painful to watch.
I understand. It is important that people are reminded about segragation and American culture at that time. This is a story that not many people know about. American imperialism resulted from the culture created by the founding fathers. Sadlty, it's an American creation in world history.
Although not Jewish, I've lost family members in the holocaust. I know the history and understand it. So, I feel similar about this terrible event. Atrocities in Vietnam, my era, bring out similar feelings. If stretched, I suppose you could call this feeling a form of PTSD.
Yes, the holocaust and segragation are two events that Americans know little about. Segragation was discrimination against blacks. The holocaust was the attempt to exterminate semites and people based on sexual orientation.
In Vietnam, American atrocities were bad and American people never got that story. Even if someone belives in communism enough to fight for it, it was wrong to slaughter them. The communists in southeast asia are pace loving people who just wanted to be allowed to let people decide who their leaders were. They didn't need to commit the atrocities that the Americans committed. I'm just glad that journalists got this story out, but it's a story that not many Americans know.
Some people, I suppose, need to be reminded of that horrible time in our history, but for the reasons mentioned above, I'll choose not to see it
History must be taught in our schools to remind people of how bad most Americans were, at one time.
God, where were you when I needed a good divorce attorney?
My relatives gassed at Auschwitz were caucasian catholics....why were they killed?
