No. I wouldn't touch him. He will get paid like a great pitcher when in reality, he's only a good pitcher. -

In Response to Re: CJ Wilson Wants to Play For The Sox, Should they sign him?:Looking at this past season the Red Sox don’t have a true # 1 starter. Beckett doesn’t go deep into games and Lester blows hot and cold. If in fact the Sox want to be more than a third place team they need to have 5 good arms in the rotation to make up for the lack of a true 200 + innings dominate starter. Wilson would be a good step in that direction.

I agree with the assesment that, with Beckett and Lester not exactly being Lincecum and Caine, the way forward to winning is with a five man rotation with no weak links. But, I wonder if this possible without throwing the bank and a lot of years at CJ Wilson. He is a solid pitcher, no doubt. But, when I strap on my arm-chair front office hat, I have it at about 60/40 that the gamble pays off. Not sure I want to assume that risk ... if there are other gambles that require less of a bet in order to win the "solid-five" ... Of course, the pickins are slim, and without consulting with my arm-chair scouts, I don't have many real alternatives ... -

A team with a teeming farm system can trade for a top-of-rotation starter while a team with a thin farm system pays through the nose in the free agent market. -

I say no. Would require too long in terms of years and $$ may not be a good investment. Totally agree with his inability of success in the post season. Plus, and this is very important, he does not drink, so how would he fit with Beckett and Lester in the clubhouse during non-starting games?

Don't forget the mortal sin of eating Popeye's fried chicken. The playing of video games turned out to be in error since those three don't play video games but believe whatever you wish to believe if it makes you happy. We need more role models like Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, and David Wells in the clubhouse. -

Posted by SpacemanEephusThat's my thoughts. He would be solid, but not for the money it would take to get him. It is like the Lackey signing-one of the better pitchers available in a given year, so earns a large contract.I'd love Wilson. His numbers make one go "Wuh. Bring im!" I'm just not convinced he would be able to live up to the large contract he would probably expect. -
