As long as getting Cody doesn't mean no Roy Oswalt/Danks (or whatever pitcher from the Chisox)/Garza(pipe dream?)/whoever else is a decent MLB Pitcher.

IF Cherrington could snag both ross and Oswalt, my official off-season A grade will be delivered to the registrar in the morning.

Exactly.  This better not be an either or.  The Sox need a dependable #5 starter more than a RFer who hits lefties (in the 25% of games or so they pitch), IMO.  But if they can get Ross AND that dependable starter, great!  Ross's career #s against lefties are impressive.

Ross should not be persued and I'm shocked to hear his name mentioned. The guy is mediocrity incarnate. It would be a wasted roster spot and, at $6.3 million, not worth the money. He's no better than any of our rookie outfielders, and wo were obstensibly trying to CUT SALARY by trading Scutero....right?

Ross wouldn't be getting close to 6.3 million. At the beginning of the offseason he orginally wanted 2 years for 5-6 million, but because it's been so long and jobs are few and far between I think we'll see Ross sign a 1 year contract for just under 2 million

His numbers versus lefties while playing mostly in pitchers ballparks are really impressive and way better than what could be xepcted from any of the rookie outfielders you talk about.

I just realised Ross throws lefty, didn't realise that.  We have to sign him now for novelty value alone.

As much as I have advocated this guy going all the way back to October, how on Earth does Cody Ross get a story dedicated to his decision annoucements?

Great move as long as it doesn't interfere with signing a 4th starter.  Oswalt just turned down the Tigers, so it looks like we are one of the final teams in the hunt.

They say that trading scutero freed up almost 8 million.  Maybe there is enough money for both Ross and Oswalt.  That wouldn't suck.

I haven't seen a single source claim trading Scoot freed up more than $6M.  Maybe we had ~$8M total free after moving Scoot.  Which is now down to $5M.  Ross signed 1 year, $3M + incentives.

Not a bad signing, but 3mill is a fair amount.

That's a very good article that brings another obvious question:  so why not tack on a $1mill player option to a one year $8mill deal for Oswalt, and bring his AAV down to $4.5mill?

I think they have rules on those type of deals in MLB.
