As a 7th starter?  Theo rolled the dice on Andrew Miller instead, and so far it looks like a good call.

Just to clarify, you're suggesting that Cashman wanted Garcia all along, and all that bending over for Lee and Pettitte in the off-season was for show?

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Colon? : Yes, I followed your link and saw that Colon's WHIP is currently 1.055.  The best of his career was his cy young season when he posted a 1.159.   I think we can all agree that WHIP is a better measure of a pitcher's performance than ERA.  Finesse or not, Garcia's WHIP of 1.272 is too high to be commensurate with a 3.15 ERA.  In fact, it's the highest WHIP of any pitcher with an ERA under 3.28.  Burnett's WHIP is lower than Garcia's.  It's not a bad WHIP - just more in line with his career stats.  That's not an implosion, but you are not likely to see the results you saw in the first half. As for Nova, If you're expecting better results from Hughes, I'm not sure what that's based on.

Hughes will be much better.   It doesn't have to be based on anything.  You constantly make pronouncements based on nothing.

About four years my "Yankee fan" friends were saying Hughes was the next coming like many Sox fans did with Clay.  Well in todays world Clay has become a very solid number 2/3 in the rotation.  Hughes appears to be a good reliever but average at best starter.

    -------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, my fact-compromised friend. Theo couldn't even see Freddie as a seventh starter in the juggernaut Sox rotation or Colon as #8. However, Cashman did. My point, exactly.
Question, right now and just until the end of the season, would you trade Bach, er, Buch and Lackey (your #s 3 and 4) for Freddie and Bartolo, (#s 7 and 8?)

OK, let's start with the facts in this 28-word post.  Colon and Garcia started the season as starters 4 and 5, yes?  How many starters should an intelligent GM acquire?

Slomag, I'll ask Cashman and get back to you. You can let Theo know.

Camelwalk, there is no comparison to Hughes and Clay whether he may be on the DL or not.  Who produces more for their team is what counts.  Hughes in my opinion usually does well out of the bullpen but as a starter?

I didn't compare the two pitchers, I said it was nice to have the option of Nova coming back if Hughes doesn't perform well as a starter.  I just don't see Bucholz as "solid" as he isn't pitching right now and noone seems certain when he is due back.

Lets just put it simple, if Clay and Hughes faced eachother in the PS I would take Clay to pitch the best.  Not because I'm a Sox fan but because he is a better starter with more effective pitches.

And at this point clay has produced 4 more wins than Hughes career wise, even though Hughes was in the 'pen for some of his career.

Babe, with all due respect would you rather have Colon and Gargia at this point starting with Hughes coming out of the pen, or Hughes starting?  Sox fans know Clay is a solid starter and would never even consider he move to the pen at this point.
