In Response to Cook tosses complete game for PawSox:WEEI: Red Sox right-hander Aaron Cook, making his first start for Triple-A Pawtucket, tossed a seven-inning complete game and earned the victory in the PawSox' 4-1 win over Lehigh Valley. Cook allowed one unearned run on just five hits, striking out four and walking two. Cook had what one talent evaluator labeled a "solid" debut for Triple-A Pawtucket, with his bread-and-butter sinker running mostly 88-89 mph and topping out at 91. His slider was a good pitch at 84-86 mph, and though he didn't have his curveball, Cook was still able to carve up his Triple-A opponents. Cook signed a minor league deal with the Sox that includes an opt-out if he is not summoned to the big leagues by May 1. His status grows in significance given Josh Beckett's struggles on Saturday, particularly if Beckett's poor outing in Detroit was related to the thumb issue that led Beckett to see two doctors earlier this week.

We have hashed this over. If Sox let Cook leave on May 1, we are shafted. Sorry, Daniel, but the BP is the answer for you. problen is that FO decided not to build a championship team -

Just out of curiosity, what moves would you have made this offseason that would have made them a "Championship team?" By the way, Bard isn't going to the bullpen anytime soon, so don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. If Beckett is in fact injured, Cook, who is obviously on the same schedule as Beckett right now, will likely replace him in the rotation. -

No doubt that Cook will be up shortly. Let's not get carried away though. He is not all that great. -

Cook is more likely to replace Doubront (who could also shift to the bullpen) than Bard. The Red Sox front office is all-in with Bard as a starter. They're not going to make a 180 degree turn before he makes a single major league start. I'd be shocked if the team doesn't give him at least a month, and more likely until the All-Star break, to assert himself as a legitimate starting pitcher. -

good point. a healthy cook would be a godsend for us ATM. with becketts health uncertain and 2 questionable starters in dubront and bard if he could come in and give us some solid pitching that would be HUGE. i do think that if bard struggles as a starter then cook will replace him (pending beckett doesn't go on the DL). -

Great news about Cook. He can come in handy if any of the pitchers go down. Nice to see he's doing so well. -

The manager of Pawtucket along with the pitching coach should be fired immediately for allowing the pitcher to go 9.... outrageous. -

He went 7...his pitch count must have been reasonable. I would have agreed had he gone 9. -

Did it rain in Pawtucket? Why was a 7 inning game a complete game?
