Why the heck would you move a gold glove caliber 2nd baseman to 3rd?

As soon as I saw this post, Bill Parcell's jumped into my head and I could vividly see and hear him say:  that has to be the dumbest question I ever heard.

Pedey belongs at 2B. He's the only guy we got for more than one year who fields his position well and hits well for his position at the same time.

I could see moving Betts to 3B or giving Bogey or Holt another chance at 3B, but right now, our left side IF defense is pitiful, and its offense isn't much better.

I don't think Pede has the range or arm to play 3B.  Betts would need to learn a new position also which may work out as badly as Bogy and Holt defensively.  I still say ...

#1 We trade for an established bat "Beltre" now and play him at 3B for his remaining contract.  If everything works out then try to re-sign him as our Papi replacement unless we have a better option.

#2 Kick the tires on Tulo

We shouldn't go into next season without at least our SS or 3B position filled by a competent every day player who can help our lineup.  My choice is trade for Beltre and either Tulo or Stanton if possible.  Save the other money for Jon and/or Shields and our team is set.   We still have Craig and Shane who "if healthy" are great pieces both offensively and defensively along with Ces, Holt, Nava and one of the following three Bogy, Betts or JBJ.  Two of these guys would surely be dealt along with Middy and a couple of young arms in such trades.

Almost as bad as the poster wanting to move Pedey to SS a couple years back.

Not sure how Headley has been doing since he left Fenway but he might be a decent replacement from outside.

    Sandoval is another FA possibility

    Beltre

    Cecchini

It's kind of surprised me a bit that they haven't tried Betts at SS or 3 B at AAA.

WMB is a tease---last night he hit three good shots in his last 3 AB's. When he is hot he's fun to watch.

    Casey McGehee--might be a reasonably priced target--he's posted a .306 BA/ 3 HR/ 60 RBI.

David Freese---might be another reasonably priced player joining Kelly and Craig as former Cards.

I'm sure Pedroia would do great but it seems to me Betts should be moved before an established Gold Glover-you  wouldn't want to weaken two positions.

no more chances for Xander at third.  He is hitting better since back at short and this is his better position.

I don't think Pedey has the arm to handle 3B any more.  If they give up on Middy, Holt could be the leading candidate to be our 3B if they don't bring in a 3B from outside.

not enough arm and not enough pop

he's the best defensive 2b in the game - why mess w/ that?
