    Lester cost a lot

    Buchholz cost a lot

    Lackey costs a ton

Doubrant doesn't cost much at all

Tazawa and/or Morales don't cost much at all

MLB contract to Francis and minor league contract offers to Harden, Bedard, Lowe, Wang and J. Sanchez don't cost much at all

    [/QUOTE]

I like J Sanchez as a guy to invite to ST.

Francis was signed by the Rockies to a minor league deal on Wednesday, Harden got injured 75% of his career, ditto for Wang, Bedard: been there done that, and Lowe is a freakin' dinosaur. Sanchez on a ML deal with an ST invite would be a low-risk high-reward deal, but everyone else? NO ME GUSTA. Especially on MLB contracts.

He probably would have fit nicely in our rotation moon.

softy said there was no way he'd sign for $23M/3. My dollar per year was almost exact. (I had raised it from my first call of $21M/3.)

I'm not going to be overly critical of Ben until I see who he gets for a SP, but if we could have had B McCarthy for $16M/2 or $23M/3, and we end up with worse than he, then I'm gonna have to blow off some steam.

I agree with you moonslav59.  Cherington gives 3 years/$39 million to Victorino but doesn't sign McCarthy.  Unless McCarthy slept with Cherington's wife, I do not understand why he did not sign him.

mcCarthy certainly had his question marks. we need someone who will surely give us good numbers consistently ALL season.

Perhaps Brandon McCarthy had no interest in signing with the Red Sox.

Then I guess the feeling was mutual.  There were some people in the Sox Front Office who had serious concerns about his shoulder, as well as the fact that he hasn't pitched since he got hit in the face with a line drive.  No one knows, including McCarthy, whether or not that incident will have an adverse affect on him.  The Sox are looking for a guy who can give them innings so he wasn't really a fit.  They kicked the tires, but they weren't going to give him any kind of multi-year deal.
