[QUOTE]In Response to Cubs get Anthony Rizzo : This was a trade only n idiot would make.  Its obvious the Padres ownership have very little baseball knowledge for allowing Byrnes to give Rizzo away.

I agree. Very slick move by Theo the sneak.

[QUOTE]If you Google "Anthony Rizzo" and trade, you will find that many of the national pundits / scribes forecasted this trade a month ago. It makes sense for both teams.

I just did that. You are correct as usual.

The Padres are now starting to get a little more back for AGon. Perhaps we'll see Casey Kelly in a Cubs uni as part of another trade for McNutt or Jackson--other prospects rumored for comp?

Obviously Theo Epstein and company are still impressed with Mr. Rizzo. Granted, San Diego isn't a hitter's ballpark but the Padres moved on quickly, didn't they? Clearly, the verdict is still out on him being a daily starter at first base.

He's 22 years old with less than 50 games in his career.  San Diego definitely panicked and dumped him fast, although maybe they like Guzman more than they should.

Rizzo's numbers are reamrkably similar to Pedroia's after the same number of games played, and Pedroia was two years older at the time.  Imagine if the Sox were so impulsive with their slow starters...

I had forgotten about Jesus Guzman but also realize that Josh Byrnes (Padres GM) and Theo Epstein are good buddies since 2005.

We'll see it all play out.
Casey Kelly is still in San Diego.
    Now Andrew Cashner is too.
Jesus Guzman and Carlos Quentin may be preferred by Byrnes and Theo now has a young "promising" first baseman. What will Theo do with Carlos Pena now?

interesting the padres were so willing to get rid of him. alonso cant play the outfield? kind of ridiculous to me, the mat latos trade return plus rizzo had some fantastic prospects who would all reach the majors together. padres didnt get enough back in cashner. agree that the padres still have poor management

Then his options were just diminished.

If they were giving us Rizzo as compensation, I would have preferred Cashner.

They got Cashner to replace Latos, and Alonso to replace Rizzo, then added Volquez, who can fill a rotation spot, and Grandal to be their catcher of the future.

Nothing is more realistic than getting Rizzo back as compensation - loons.
