Starting pitcher Ryan Dempster said he signed with the Red Sox because he believes the Sox have as good a chance as any team of winning next season....

Nothing like tearing the product apart before these guys get on the field.
Dempster didn't twist anyone's arm to sign him for $26 M. If you have a crystal ball and can foresee the future tell us how much longer we need to listen to your garbage. Go find a new place to spill your venom.

Another pitcher who will surrender 5 runs every 5 innings..... like we don't have enough of those already.

Did you expect him to say "Even though I think the Sox are terrible, I took the money"?? -

Dempster just got his 26.5 million old man's parachute. His words ring hollow, just like his career. He's a bum and will earn the name "Dumpster".
softlaw dislikes a Red Sox player. Color me shocked. -

Actually, after having 3 rough outings last year when he first went to the Rangers, Dempster had 8 good outings in a row. He adapted to the new league real quick and will have little problem with an aging Yankee lineup, A Tampa team with little to no offense and an inconsistent Baltimore team. Only the Blue Jays look solid on paper but they haven’t played a game yet so they are an unknown commodity.

For 13+ million, he ought to put up Ace-like numbers.I wonder how many other teams are paying their number 5 guy $13M?

As I noted elsewhere....I was against the Dempster signing....but that bridge has past.....no reason not to get behind him now and hope that as a veteran who knows how to pitch, he can use what he has to expoit the weaknesses of batters. look at Andy Pettite....his stuff his nothing like it was, but he pitched pretty decent last year when healthy......Dempster has better stuff than Pettite does right now....we will see if he has his guile in the Al East/

The good news: Dempster is ready for the AL East. The bad news: The AL East is ready for Dempster. He will get hammered . But that is okay because he is only a " number 5 ." And he is " only " getting 13 million a year. And it is " only " for two years. So , no problem. We have a " plan."

Since we don't have a 1 or 2 guy, doesn't that make Dempster a number 7 guy? -

Please inform us what you expect from a #5 pitcher and what should his contract be. Moonslav has a post on what statistics are typical for #5 starters, did you ever read it?
Please provide us with a detailed breakdown of the payroll and anticipated return on same of each and every major league club. Also an in depth scouting report of every player under the age of 23 in the Red Sox system. Also , a complete history of all so-called # 5 starters in both leagues over the past twelve years. And , please provide links for all of your research. When you finish this assignment , report back here with the results. -
