DLowe picked up a save tonight in his N.Y. debut vs. the Rangers. Four innings, no runs, two hits , four strikeouts, no walks. Is there anyone in our bullpen who could do that ? -

As usual, the Red Sox sat on their hands & did nothing regarding picking up Lowe. Sad state of affairs considering Lowe even hinted at returning to Boston. -

Our pen is our strength. Had we signed Lowe and he had just one bad game, we'd hear how badly Ben is doing. -

Our pen has been mostly a strength, but Atchison and Padilla are gone and Melancon has a 7.39 ERA. -

4 innings, first outing, too soon to say. Rangers didn't have much offense against Phelps, either. Only time will tell how this plays out. -

Yeah, it just seems like the Yankees do a much better job patching their holes than we do. They have arguably had even more damaging injuries than we have this year. -

ya i love how people keep refering to our pen as a strength, padilla and atchison are done, melancon is still mediocre, breslow is giving up a run every time out now, albers is gone to zona, bailey will be back tomorrow, so we essentially have bailey and aceves that can be counted on. Clearly a real strong pen, oh and lets not forget our great set up man/ potential closer of the future is sitting in AAA cuz the fo mess with him and potentially ruined him. He cant even get his s**t together in AAA. Lowe would not have solved all the sox problems, but he would have been a good pick up. He wanted to be here and the sox didnt even give him a chance. The sox fo is a big part of why the team is doing so bad this year. They refuse to bring in reinforcements when the team clearly needs them and continuosly make bad moves. -

Our bullpen is overrated. The save percentage is close to the worst in the league. Hopefully Bailey will make a difference. -

First of all our bullpen WAS A STRENGTH...it's been overused and this is what has transpired1. Atchison's arm fell off2. Padilla's arm fell off3. Albers inexplicably traded4. Aceves shaky often5. Melancon terrible in 2 stints as a SoxDerek Lowe wanted to come back, the Sox needed some feel good veteran return to the Fens story and this was it. If anything it would have been nostalgic. Instead he'll likely throw great for NYY the rest of the way. He was needed, he wanted to come back, and as usual Ben sat on his hands. -

I'm not suprised Benbot did nothing about Lowe. He's done nothing all year of any consquence. What little he's done with his trades and signings is pretty pathetic, except for Ross. He's clearly incapable as a GM. That's why Larry chose him. He's an errand boy, brick salesman and gives platitudes by the shovelful. I'm sure they don't pay him like a real GM anyway. Would you? -

Posted by moonslav59It's a pen that is not as good as the one from earlier in the year, and that's really my point. As for Atchison, how many times did the Sox use 4 or 5 relievers in a game just to suit BV's cat fancy regarding his managerial wisdom. And on another note, I would like to see Prior, but I'm sure that again Ben will nix any idea of having a veteran player with some prior success muck up a terrible team. -

Who cares? Derek Lowe is not on our team, and there's probably a reason for that since he's been trying to get back on the team for a while. -

Who are you going to cut today when Bailey returns? Do you send out Mel or Junichi or Mort??He who hesitates is lost...it wasn't just BenC and Theo but Chavez, Andru and Ibanez could have been on the Sox bench or covering 3 B or patrolling the OF.Cash and Lowe gave the Sox every chance to swoop in and the Sox management must have felt Melancon was a better choice. Who knows the real story? In Response to Re: Derek Lowe:Who would you have cut?
