Guys, the Yankees are so depsperate to put a team on the field, they tried to loor Chipper Jones, Derek Lee amd Scott Rolen out of retirement. None of those guys want to leave their lounge chair for a sinking ship. Word is Cashman will turn his attention to Mike Schmidt and Wade Boggs.

Don't criticize the Yankees to quickly here...who knows if the Sox don't go down the same path with Ortiz if he is out for any extended period of time, BUT is expected to return. The Yankees going after a recently retired pro makes a ton of sense since they are looking for a temporary solution...something where that player would retire when Texiera returns.

Red Sox fans are no position to be dumping on other teams.
Our team is currently the poster team for misery. $175 million for a team that came closer to last overall than a playoff spot....even with two wildcard spots available!!!
The way things usually work out for New York, they will actually sign Mike Schmidt...he'll hit 20 homeruns, bat .290 and drive in 85 runs...from the #9 spot in the batting order!
Never bury these guys until they are truly dead.

Cafardo: Yankees have inquired about Chase Headley
By Mike Axisa
Via Nick Cafardo: The Yankees have inquired about the availability of Chase Headley. Padres GM Josh Byrnes recently told Peter Gammons his third baseman isn’t available, but that is typical GM speak. Even if he is available they would say he isn’t just to create leverage. For what it’s worth, Bill Madden reported last week San Diego has started listening to offers for their franchise cornerstone.
Headley, 28, hit .286/.376/.498 (145 wRC+) with 31 homers and 17 steals last season, including .308/.386/.592 (170 wRC+) with 23 homers and ten steals after the All-Star break. The switch-hitter is an above-average defender at third and is under team control as an arbitration-eligible player through 2014. He’ll earn $8.575M this summer. The Yankees did not contact the Padres about Headley at the Winter Meetings following the news of Alex Rodriguez’s hip surgery, but I guess they’re a little more desperate for offense these days. The cost would be substantial — two top prospects plus one or two lesser pieces? — but Headley is a star-caliber player in his prime years with multiple years of team control remaining. · (83) · -

Or maybe Padres are smart and don't believe he can duplicate that kind of season again, maybe a Brady Anderson type season. Previous highs were 64 rbi's and 12 hr's. Sell why his value never been higher, or maybe he just came into his own last year. Tough Call?

they couldn't afford to keep him since they are trying to get under the threshold by next season. maybe if they didn't bring back OMAR and the sandman they could've managed to keep him. But then again, between those 2 deals and the other 1 year deals they gave out they should have a decent amount coming off the books.. minus the 11+M extra Cano is going to be making next season.you think they can actually achieve their goal and get under the tax limit??

He's washed up Jete. All he did was stand in Todd Frazier's way last year, and the bum struck out with the tying runs on base to end the game against SF and lose the series. Also errored a ball in game three, which contributed largely to the Red's loss in that game. He was great once, not no mo. He just can't do it anymore. -

Al Roker....the answer????
Now it all makes sense. THIS is why he crapped his pants at the White House. Steinbrenner called him and offered him on OF position with NYY. I predict 000.1 in 532 ab's, 0 HR, 1 RBI on a hbp in Boston with the Sox leading 16-2 in the 9th just because his weather reports have become annoying. Furthermore, the stark contrast between looking at him vs. Stephanie Abrams is just getting to be too much.
