I wouldn't go that far, but he certainly does look like he lost it at the plate. I posted this on the game thread: If the rest of the lineup keeps hitting like it's been the past six weeks, I can live with Drew's .225-.230 BA simply to have his defense in RF. He has played excellent defense in RF all year.

He drives me absolutely crazy. Ball right down the middle waiting to get launched into the bleachers and he yawns.

Good job Dave. andrewbitch has been in hiding ever since the Sox starting winning, so you were able to lure him out with a Drew thread just so he'd have something to b itch about. His life isn't complete if he can't come on this board to whine about something.

I see you found something you could post about today.  You wouldn't, of course, want to give Theo any credit for the rest of what is going on.

If you watched the past 2 days and your #1 take-away was JD Drew struggling, you seriously need to work on that glass 1/25 empty attitude.

The team is amazing and Drew blows, oh well.

ok guys drews hitting has gotten to the point now where it is just brutal. 0-5 with 4k's today against a pitching staff that was getting destroyed. I dotn care if other guys are hitting and he plays slightly above average d. He is terrible.

Just pure agony in a 14 to 1 game coming after a nine game winning streak and consecutive road series sweeps.

He's d is good, but a AAA will be plenty adequate and he will also hit much better.  Drew should be designated as a defensive replacement not a starter.
I have a feeling that this will happen at the end of the season with the september callups, but why wait untill then.

    Re: Drew's downward spiral continues

its does not matter how well the rest of the team is hitting. drew should be evaluateed on well he is hitting, no one else. We currently have 3 lefthanded outfielders, 1 of which is hitting above .250 (Ellsbury). Drew is not producing and honestly i would much rather give reddick playing time and have drew on the bench. He had minial playing time while drew was injured and then got sent down. Now depending on howw kalish's recovery goes we could see him at some point this year but as it stands he is not the long term answer to replace drew.

I'm thinking it could be like Drew in 07 or like Edgar Renteria for the Giants last year - forgotten and dismissed veterans who later pull a rabbit out of a hat.

The last strikeout must have been painful for everyone in the dugout to watch. Three pitches---all in his wheelhouse, especially the last one---taken for called strikes. Maybe they could DL him for some mystery ailment and he could go to Pawtucket to try to get a handle on this. Another disappointment is that Cameron, his frequent replacement in right, is just as bad if not worse at the plate!
On the positive side, Lester seems to have regained his control. What a blowout series!

    Re: Drew's downward spiral continues

As long as the team is scoring plenty of runs, it is not a major concern. Drew may still have a hot streak in him. Still, there is no question that the Drew / Cameron platoon in right is a weak spot in the offense.  Probably best to give it a little more time and see what happens.

    Re: Drew's downward spiral continues

Drew wasn't expected to excel in his final year of the 5-year deal. Nor will Lackey. Nor will Crawford. Over-pricing goes hand-in-hand with filling a need.

Reddick/Kalish are likely to fill Drew's position next year. There will be ample time to see them more this year with Drew's regression. And the expectations from them will be lessoned.

9 wins in a row and Drew gets bashed. Unbelievable.

JD is many things, and a frustrating perfectionist regrading what he swings at may be among them.  He does not, however, appear to be stupid or someone who will hang on beyond his time.  He will leave after this contract.
