The Yankees' deal with Ellsbury is done, pending a physical. I'm told the contract is bigger than Crawford's 7 year/$142M deal.

What ever happened to, "The Yankees won't be able to afford him and Cano too"?  Does this mean the Y's are giving up on Cano?  Or does it mean they are going to thumb their noses at the Luxury Tax?

As much as I hate losing Ellsbury, 7 years is too many and $142M+ is too much.  If this is what it took to sign him I won't be looking back and saying that we should have paid it.

I believe the posting system with Japan may have opened the door to this deal. Probably no Tanaka in New York. Also might mean Beltran in KC. Hopefully the deal is for 7-150.

i was jacobys biggest fan and i wouldn't even have given him 150M or 7 years.

money aside i am sorry to see Jacoby go. I would have been bummed if he signed elsewhere but i am totally devestated he signed with the EE. Definitely going to be crying myself to sleep over this one.

Exactly what I was thinking. Too many years, too much money. I wish I could wish him the best of luck, but playing for the Yankees.....sorry. I hope he keeps playing 96 games a year or less.

Good. Now he will get booed everytime he plays at Fenway. I'd drill him first pitch. Going to the Yankees is a crime. How many Yankees come to Boston? Not stupid enough. That said, 153? You are out of your mind. Let him rot in NY, because that's what he will do. Hello JBJ!

Re: Ellsbury closing in on a 7 year deal with the Yankees?

If they now sign Cano you would have to say the NewYorkers have primed the pump to compete for the WS next season. The pressure now is on the Yankees to sign Cano. If he goes to the Tigers or the Rangers or even the M's I would say there could be some open competition.

The question is who wil be pitching for the Yankees to keep other teams off the board.

If the Sox don't resign Nap or go all in for Beltran or Choo I would think this year will be the bridge year.

I am in full agreement with others on the board--7 years and $150 + M is a LONG TIME AND A LOT OF MONEY---no way the Sox make the same mistake they made with CC. Good bye and Good luck Ells.

Hopefully our pitching and the rest of the AL pitching will shut the Bombers down.

Has averaged about 113 games a year for last six years.  Only played 134 games this year.

Boras suckers the Yankmees again.  Now I hope Arod gets to play this year so they are stuck with even more dead money.  4 years from now when Ellsbury has lost a couple of steps I hope they enjoy paying 22 mill per season for .275 8 HR's and 55 Rbi's with 15 SB's.

Now I am seiing 8-169. Maybe Cano is really going to get 250?

I  didn't think the Yankees would sign Ellsbury. I thought he was too similar to Gardner.

Ellsbury in Yankee stadium is perfect for him. If he stays healthy;) I predict he hits 20 homers. And the fences there are much more friendly on defense. He could put up some impressive WAR numbers the next few years. But.....8 years? Wow.

time to really focus in on the right handed hitting CF-corner OF bats. Ruggiano-Denafrio-Stubbs. Hopefully this doesn't get the Red Sox desperate to force a Kemp move.
