Ellsbury come back player of the year?

I think he has a shot. He is going to hit 15 hr, steal 50+ base, 300, 360 OBP pretty good for a guy missing a whole season.

Do they give a come back player of 2 months award?

Most Red Sox noticed the leadoff chip shot off Garcia who was serving up wheelhouse roomservice. I noticed the caught stealing, becoming common, and the standard Bellsbury pullup for the easy big hop on the bloop RBI "single" by Cano that any good CF'er would have easily caught. He plays as deep as David Ortiz would play if he was in CF.

    Why didn't Jed Lowrie start?

If our "defensive ace" SS can't start at the position, neither can yours.

Comeback from what?  He is only now showing us his true abilities.... hardly a comeback.  This is the player he is, and its good.

Normally comeback awards go to players who performed at a high level for at least 2 consecutive seasons and then suffered a long injury or at least one terrible season offensively .... get with the program BosoxJoe5

Agreed, it normally goes to someone whose game really fell off due to injury and later came back up to form. Ellsbury never had a chance to struggle. He just missed playing time due to injury.

Sigh, another "new" poster to ignore.  FWIW, before I hit the "iggy" button ...

Ells has a 74% steal rate which is lower than '09 but fine and subject to significant fluctuation at this point in the year. Also, what I notice is a +.360 OBP in the leadoff spot ... isn't that the hallmark of a good leadoff hitter?  Also, his 19 doubles don't exactly suck and his HR rate is a nice little bonus.  That is all.

Re: Ellsbury come back player of the year?

Ellsbury had a chance to struggle, in 2008 and 2010. He returned with the blessings of Scott Boras' personal doctor selection, in 2010, and did a little girly roll in the IF after laying an egg in the first games back from Scott Boras API sojourn.

Because fans only notice recent plateword, they haven't noticed that Bellsbury has struggled in CF his entire career. He avoids errors by playing almost 400 feet deep and playing what are outs for most CF'ers on a big hop (see 2009 ALDS)

The fact that Softy is having to munch on dead, rotten crow right now could not please me more. He has to be just seething with anger and beet red with embarrassment.

I don't feel he would qualify for "comeback" status given his circumstances. Whether he makes the All-Star team or not, we should sign him long term asap.

Ellsbury has the second best zone rating among AL centerfielders.

Red, on the other hand, has the lowest zone rating on "on the front burner."  He hasn't caught a single ball since he switched over from BaseballGM and before that from softlaw and its variations.

Oh well, at least the small sample is better than Bellsbury's large sample. When you play near 400 feet deep to keep the ball in front of you, it doesn't hide how poor a fielder you are.

At this point, I think Colon will get the Come Back Player of the year, unless he gets a surprise knock on the door from someone holding a specimen cup.
