Ellsbury for Braun? Ellsbury for Kemp?

Let me just make this clear: I DO NOT WANT TO TRADE ELLSBURY. However, his stock can never be higher. I, personally, do not think that Jacoby will match his 2011 numbers and is poised to decline. Not drastically, but measurably. So why not ring up Melvin or Colleti and offer Ellsbury and someone else (Kalish? Reddick? Lowrie?) for Braun/Kemp. Your thoughts?

I would do my due dilligence and make those calls.
Or if you want to keep Ells offer him the same as Kemp is getting. Or the extension Braun just signed through 2020 for a total of $145 M.

I don't think either team will make the trade without a committment beyond 2 years.

Right now, I think it's got to be Ellsbury for pitching.  The braves have it in spades, and need offense.  If the Cardinals lose Pujols, they will salivate over Ellsbury.  John Jay is nothing to write home about.  Maybe Ellsbury and one of our out-of-option guys (Miller, Doubront, Tazawa) for Wainwright and Shelby Miller.

I would be inclined to make the deal with Oakland for Gio Gonzales and Andrew Bailey and a prospect for Ells, Doubrount, Tazawa, Lowrie and one of the following Jacobs, Brentz, Vitek.

I think Beane would work hard to flip Ells before ST for more prospects or sign him long term with the move to San Jose and a new ballpark.

Of course, other GMs will also think his value has peaked.  I like Braun's contract better than Kemp (who also had a career year), but the dude is locked in for 9 years.  And of course, he plays LF.  Beyond that, I see no reason to trade one OF for another, without a compelling reason.  Particularly for Kemp.  One has the better contract, or the other does.  One team has to lose.  Usually you trade one of your surpluses for someone else's surplus.  Like offense for pitching, or a 2B for a catcher.  It wouldn't make sense to trade a CF for a CF.

What is with all the talk about shipping Ells out of town?
why take one of the only things that is still right with this team and send him packing for Kemp or Braun?

By the way Kemp and Braun are both under long term contracts and are home town favorites. Braun just signed an extension and won the NL MVP I'm sure the brewers are just dying to get him out of town and would love to trade him for a player with one great season under his belt and a minor leaguer.
    Their fans would love them!

kemp just had an amazing year and LA clearly wants him around for a while.

The sox scored a ton of runs, the pitching was the problem.
So why trade ells for either of these guys even if they where available and they clearly are not.

this is a stupid idea that everyone on this board can't stop talking about.
the sox have a great offense, maybe add one good RH Bat, and no, that doesn't mean Albert Pujols.

this team needs desire, discipline and a true ace to anchor the staff, weather that means one of our guys stepping up or an outside fix.

Based upon some of your comments I think you would have advocated trading Yaz, Rice, or any other RS at the age of 29.
I'm not saying his is going to be as good as one of those 2 long term but he has the potential to be the best CF we have ever had and better than Lynn.

You complainers do understand people are advocating trading Ellsbury, not because they simply want to get rid of the next Yastrzemski, but because there's 100 % chance he leaves in free agency... right?

If Ellsbury wants to leave Boston, he and the other team could agree that he'd sign an extension as soon as it's viable.
The ideal team for Ellsbury is the Giants, but they are not going to trade either of their top two starters for him. After that, it's probably the Dodgers, but they aren't going to trade Kershaw for him. Then it's probably the Braves, but the Sox are unlikely to accept what Atlanta is willing to offer.
Odds are good to a lock that Ellsbury plays CF for Boston in 2012. From there, it depends in large part how he performs.

Sorry many folks here have been advocating trading Ells for the past two years. So I do not think most are about FA. IMO most are about wanting Kemp or Braun or some one else because of a dislike for Ells. I also think many see him as fragile but fail to realize that the injury was a freak injury (ribs in collision with Beltre) and one that seems (the severity) to have been missed by the medical folks. Since it ended up worse than most thought. Many also believe he showed up the RS FO. However what he did is what was the right path based upon this past years play.
