In response to Joebreidey's comment:
#1 How long our FO chooses to stick with certain youngsters before realizing they may have been wrong.
Which youngsters have we been wrong with?
Bogy defensively at SS and Middy offensively do very little to help this club which is even more evident now that Iggy and Drew are gone and we had the pleasure of seeing Youk's best years/high OBP's offensively. Could I be wrong about both? Absolutley, but like I said before that most disagreed with, I don't see SS, 3B or CF reminding us of Jacoby, Drew, Iggy or Youk anytime soon. What if Middy struggles or goes on the DL again and we continue to replace 3B with a bunch of scrubs while Bogy still struggles at SS? Will our team improve? No because Cecchini is probably the worse defensive 3B but best offensive prospect we have there.
This is why comparing a young SS like Marrero to what Herrera and Bogy never accomplished defensively at the minor league level is so important, especially after trading Iggy. Sure Marrero is only at AA and we don't know how he will fair against big league pitching but we do know this. Marrero may improve our 21rst ranked defense if we don't want to sign Drew. Bogy should also get on base more than Middy, Roberts, Holt, or Snyder if moved back to 3B while probably playing as well or better defensively.
Then we have a youngster like Betts "who again" could be too early to judge but we do know he won't be at 2B unless Pede goes down. So why have one of, if not our best young prospect playing 2B with SS, 3B and the OF so questionable. The same needs to be said about the OF because we have a very weak LF, rookie struggling to find himself in center and our best two defenders with a history of injuries. I do feel Sizemore will get better if he stays healthy but can't expect a guy to be out of B Ball that long and just tear things up. Finally our pitching, we need to show Lester our appreciation by rewarding him with the contract he deserves ASAP otherwise it will be just as bad as losing Jacoby in CF. Lackey has been great and Peavy despite how some feel has done the same but after those three we have nothing but hope with Doubront, Clay's health and a bunch of "again" what some people think are great young arms but we still don't know who and when one will be ready to help our rotation. I see a lot of decent trade bait this team may miss a lot less than Iggy or Jacoby. Guys like Lav, Nava, Carp, Gomes, Middy, Doubront, Cecchini, Holt, Brentz and possibly even JBJ if we can finally land that big power OF bat along with two or three young arms are all possibilities. JBJ in my opinion at 21 could be another Jacoby in a year or two, or just a solid glove with little power and decent bat. I'm sure our FO has a plan and I'm not trying to play the expert but still feel 3B and SS should change hands ASAP and not past this season. I hope I'm dead wrong because I love to see our youngsters succeed.
