Essential Nearly Immediate Moves in Wake of InEpstein Payroll and Buget Busting Construction Butchery

    1. Shop Youk to Reds and Indians and elsewhere, where Youk would be a great 3B/1B/DH fit for the Indians and Scott Rolen is old and totally washed up in Cinci. Look to net back one solid young lower cost pen arm and pay a large part of Youk's remaining contract for 2012. Youk has been a good Red Sox soldier, but I am sure he would welcome a trade back home in the last part of his playing career.

    2. Call-up Middlebrooks and go with him for all of 2012. Middlebrooks will be a better defender than old Youk with no range, and Youk is no more than a lower lineup support guy at this stage of his career. Even if Middlebrooks is marginal at the plate, he is solid in AAA this year, the overall package will be an upgrade and will provide new energy to a veteran dead corpse clubhouse that has cost nearly a half a billion for zero playoff wins in the last 3 years.

    3. Option Salty to AAA and call-up Lavarnway. Red Sox don't need Salty's bat v. RP because they have plenty of that and Salty is a butcher behind the plate. He has slow hands of stone and his head is always out of the game. Since he has an option, he can be retained with flexibility while Shoppach plays out 2012. Shoppach will do a better job defensively, and Lavarnway's plate profile is a much better fit. Lavarnway has the intelligence and athletic ability to do a good job on offense and defense from the catcher spot.

    4. Since Punto is costing millions to be a UIF'er, platoon the SS butcher Aviles with Punto, with Aviles sitting v. most RP. Now that the bean counting with Iglesias is set in stone, anticipate obvious return to offensive status quo of Aviles and start setting the early table to deal him and call-up Iglesias to take over SS with Punto UIF'er. Made no sense to pay millions for Punto with Aviles. If bean counting with Iglesias was the plan, and Aviles the starter, should have picked up a dumpster one year MLB tweener UIF'er profile for near zero cost.

The Red Sox need a new identity and clubhouse chemistry that removes one of the veterans from the dead corpse clubhouse identity.

Re: Essential Nearly Immediate Moves in Wake of InEpstein Payroll and Buget Busting Construction Butchery

Youk is starting to look like a classic case of shoulda sold when the value was high.  Could have kept Beltre and traded after 2010, now Youk's trade value is very little and the Red Sox will still end up paying for 2012, even if they could trade him.  My guess is he plays out 2012 and his option is not picked up for 2013.

Since Theo's name is in the thread title, I will take this opportunity to point out Theo's horrible track record with "home town loyalty".  Damon, Lowe, even Pedro, were all let walk, in the name of business over loyalty.  Lowell, Schill, and now to an extent Youk, were shown loyalty when they should have been sent packing and not paid for past services.

There is a pretty basic business philoshophy, that has to do with the guy making the decisions needs to feel beholden to organization for the long term, in order to feel the impact of long term decisions.  If Theo thought he was going to be in Boston until 2018, I wonder if he would have done anything differently?

The Red Sox are not bean counting

The Red Sox are bean counting. Aviles hasn't proven to be more than a butcher defender with a career median average plate profile that doesn't offset his hands of stone.

I thought you solved all the problems, hank, by eliminating your two favorite dead corpse veterans from last season. Wasn't that your dream and goal to see Wakefield and Varitek off the Sox roster? Well, you got your wish. And you're not happy with what has resulted since then? You just figured well they were cancers who had to be eradicated at all costs. No chemistry? hmmmmmmmmm...No personality either.

Sadly, we have no one to trade that would bring us anyone of value, except  Pedey and Agon.

Is softy really now saying we should "sell low"?

I thought he was all against that type of move.

I thought he blasted me last winter for suggesting a trade of Youk. Now he softy has become a follower.

Back to ignore for this silly clown.

" The Red Sox are bean counting"

Wow softy we totally agree on something.

however you are delusional to think we can get anything from Youk now that he is washed up.

Please redo your analysis while taking into account we have no tradeable assets except Beckett, Pedey, and Gonzo.
