In response to moonslav59's comment:
Papi was underpaid for years. He's a legend. Nobody has done more for this team than Papi.
We could have "done better" with the money, but I have no issue paying our hero backpay.
This is a fair point...and for whatever reason it still pisses me off!
Maybe because he's complained about money so many times, for so many seasons.
Maybe it's the thought of one over-paid millionaire complaining that he's not as over-paid as the even MORE absurdly over-paid millionaires.
Or that he got it after a day-to-day injury turned into 6 months and counting...
As I write this, I remember more and more reasons. So it's not one thing I suppose, but a lot of things. Yes, he did great things as a Red Sox. He's been properly compensated and revered. He already had been before the 2 year deal.
In the end, he probably gets too much criticism. They overpaid eveyone except Napoli.
After the Dodgers trade, the team said they would spend competitively in 2013 and would, again, be among the highest payrolls in the majors. I laughed. Most people did. They had something like 45million guaranteed. After arbitration cases, I think it was expected around 60. Anyway...they spent their money now. An extra fiteen here...twelve there...over and over again...and they did it. They spent a lot of bad money. Fortunately, they didn't give up many prospects or picks, but for Hanrahan. And in a few years, most will be gone, or sooner.
